Agreed, the biggest difference at the moment will be down to the use of a composite signal and changing that to component (progressive or interlaced) will make the first big improvement. However, once that is done, I suspect that the lack of resolution will then become apparent as the next biggest i...

In Denmark with my ADSL2+ connection, I get 2mbit/s upload and 20mbit/s download. We are not so lucky in the UK, it seems to take the ISPs longer to adopt the newer technologies - it is only recently that ADSL Max has become common. According to http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isps.html there are onl...

I think I also read somewhere that the best quality video out the DVR station will give is S-video. The component cables are only really there for connectivity - but I might be out of date/wrong on that as that was for the Gen 4 DVR station. Surely all the connections are only really there for conn...

Damn AOL! I've done a few tests but I'm only uploading at roughly 512kps, I'm guessing this is not good enough to do this effectively? Presumably you have ADSL2/ADSL Max, as the upstream limit on standard ADSL is just 256Kbps. Even with ADSL Max, the theoretical maximum upstream speed is only 832Kb...

I don't know if that particular NAS has a web front-end, but there is a good chance as most of them do (as well as ftp, samba, etc.). Then you just need to configure your router to allow that device to be accessed externally (with password protection). It sounds like a NAS would be better for you. Y...

Yikes! Maybe I'll just stick to leaving my computer on instead! I was really expecting some little gadget for like £100 or less, I was way off! There are plenty of cheap NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices out there for pretty much every budget. You could look at something like this: http://www...

Re: Aspect Test
Does this answer it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNitB0LhWY0&mode=related&search= Not really, no. The TV they were recording was displayed on the screen in 4:3 but then it looked like a 4:3 transmission, so that would be the right thing to do. In other words it is inconclusive. (some of the clips...

This is not as much of an Archos competitor, as Epson models'. It shares the size, format and card reader capabilities, and RAW support is clearly geared towards photographers. It clearly is geared towards photographers and that is the reason I am considering it. But I am not only a photographer an...

Update?
Any news on this? Did you go ahead and get one in the end? I'm currently trying to decide between this and the 605. The main advantages this has for me are the built-in card reader and RAW format support for images. It also has a built-in TV output (I think you need an adaptor on the 605?) I've been...

webdav is one way for a filing system to have read/write access to files on a remote server. If the filing system supports webdav then applications can access files in exactly the same way as if they were on the local drive or lan. Whether Archos have/will add support for webdav is another matter bu...

I agree that this is the most pragmatic approach with the greatest benefit to the users.
There is a thread I have started to discuss the feasibility of achieving this over here.

Agreed the device certainly runs linux and I am not the only one who has been lied to about it. I seem to remember someone on here being told it did and then didn't run linux during the same phone conversation with Archos support! It does seem inevitable that eventually we will get access to the sou...

Will there be an SDK for the 604 WiFi?
This is a question I have that I haven't seen addressed anywhere on these or other forums. There has been a lot of discussion regarding getting access to the linux source code and hacking the firmware, etc. But for me personally, that is not so interesting. Archos seem to have done a good job of the...
