You are missing the fact that anyone could copy Archos code to their products.

Re: How to open an A7

7200RPM more RPM more speed What would you want that speed for? The device spins down the harddisk all the time in order to save battery life. It only spins it up to fill the video/audio buffer during playback. Then it may be spinning for a few seconds. Having a faster harddisk may save you a secon...

Re: Are Python GUI progs possible on hacked 605?

I don't see why python on the 605 should be impossible. After all we had it on the Archos PMA. The GFT3 hack can be used to start some alternative operating environment such as qtopia. There is no reason why this alternative operating environment couldn't comprise the required python libs. A problem...

Re: Archos keys

BTW: Kevin Boone has already written an open-source replacement for aui which has the same functionality and more. Is it available for public? AFAIK he intends to publish it but hasn't done so yet. If you ask him, he will surely give you the source and binary. I think there was a problem with ulibc...

Re: Archos keys

So you are trying to read the keys with a working kernel? Well, I guess then you should just take the normal linux approach of reading keys. If aui can do it, so can you. I don't think the kernel would let you fiddle with GPIO pins anyway. BTW: Kevin Boone has already written an open-source replacem...

Re: Archos keys

At the boot stage it is not a normal device: pressing "volume up" during boot drives you to a recovery image. Are you saying that you are implementing your own bootloader? Or how do you check for the presence of the USB stick? I once started a bootloader for the Archos PMA and had to fiddle around ...

Re: GFT3 (Stable v1.0) for archos605 wifi (Software Jailbreak)

I used GFT2 to extract the AES and five RSA keys from an A705 (1.8.x) flash. The AOS2 utility (archutil) had been updated by the A5 IT keys but I couldn't find a version that handles A705 firmware files. Good work. I'm sure CheBuzz would be interested in the 705 keys. We have been looking for them ...

mr_nobody wrote:Just to make sure I extracted the unlocked avos correctly
AVOS for the 605-hdd differs from that for the 605f. Archos surely didn't expect anyone to run avos on a different hardware than for which it was compiled so it is not surprising that avos simply crashes.

Re: modifying bootargs

Does anybody know how to modify the bootargs (kernel parameters) on the Archos5/7 Angstrom edition? The bootargs are hard coded into the bootloader, right? Yes but I think they can be overwritten in the actual kernel config. There is no signature check or something on the Angstrom edition, is there...

Re: 160gb disk size shows as 250gb in Unbutu Terminal

That sounds awesome! Just a question, you do mean format through the Archos menu, right? Yes. The "format" option in the recovery menu isn't just a normal format but also re-defines the partition layout. If you do just a normal format through a PC, the partition layout wouldn't be changed, the exis...

Re: GFT3 for archos605 (and possible others)

Congratulations, guys, this is surely the most advanced root exploit for any Archos device yet. All the others were really simple in comparison. I guess the next big step to freedom would be to somehow take over the kernel and make it load a custom kernel and custom init. However, with this exploit ...

Re: Script to enable wifi

What would be really cool is a script/program that unroles an archos firmware and takes the required files from that and then does everything your script does. This would circumvent the problem that the wifi files are copyrighted stuff because Archos is allowed to provide them within their firmwares...

Re: TUT: GUY FAWKES HACK WITH NO DVR STATION -HOW TO!

When running the umount command, the /media/disk drive frequently fails to dismount because the device is busy. If you disconnect your Archos while the drive is busy, there is a good chance that your files will fail to copy properly Simple remedy: Issue a "sync" on the command line after writing da...
