Oh, this document is even more interesting:

On the PMA opera used the YUV-buffer for full-colour display. The OSD-layer was used by Qtopia and was only 8bit palette mode.

Well there you go, thanks! I think I might understand the various framebuffers now. You have 16 bits per pixel, 5x5x5 is rgb and the 16th bit is the transparency? The 16bits format surely is no 6:5:5 or 5:5:5 as on PCs. It is probably a YUV buffer like on the PMA. There it was like this luminance p...

Every graphical layer has a mask for transparency. So you need to fill up this mask to show the whole layer. (Can't find it anymore) Hope you understand what I mean. Good hint! Here is a quote from a TI document on the DaVinci: "The control thread also draws and updates the text and graphics on the...

Re: Some success...

http://kevinboone.com/qt604_1.jpg ... Please don't get carried away :) So far I only have a capability to add exactly _one_ qtopia app to the unit, and that has to be installed in place of the PDF viewer, using a very ugly hack. The hack has to be reapplied after each power-on, which is a drag. We'...

See this discussion here:

Apparently it won't be as easy as hoped to make qt-applications run on the 605.

Re: More

None of this is a problem (in itself) for people who want to port a completely new operating environment (Opie, OpenPMA, whatever) to the 604/5; but it's not very positive for people who (like me) just want to add a few apps to the unit to make up missing features. It seems to me that either a lot ...

That was posted on Apr 1st. Are you now ready to replace it with a real picture?
Sure, you just need to do the dd to the framebuffer with the right image file... :D

Im having this issue streaming dvd's from my PC through my 605 audio is choppy and video is stop and go. I use clonedvd2 with anydvd running in background to burn DVD's to my hardrive. Could it be the CSS doing it? No, I'd guess that the throughput on your wireless LAN is too low. Are you living in...

Re: Instead of venturing independently

unlock them so people dont have to pay for what should be free in the first place. Should be free? Why? This is a bad excuse for steeling. A lot of work has to be put into a codec starting from the people who first develop it to the people who implement the very specific one on the archos. These pe...

But I think you're right, there's only a few of us working on this. Well, the openPMA-team has never had more than four developing members at a time and yet we have achieved quite a lot. And I'd reckon that the skill of people here adds up even more in favour of the 605-hack. So there is no need to...

Re: does framebuffer change in tv out mode?

Has anyone tried if the framebuffer changes when you switch to tv-out? Judging on the different icon size and display I suspect that the resolution is higher for tv-out. If the internal display has 800x480, this resolution is already higher than standard TV-resolution... :) However, changing resolu...

Re: how to run own apps in the framebuffer etc

I guess this is also the way how apdf writes to the screen. If avos knows about apdf running and taking hold of the framebuffer, IMHO the best way of adding features to the 605 would be to replace apdf with a script that will fire up some breed of qtopia/opie instead of apdf. Qtopia and what ever i...

Also, does anyone see any merit to using Opera Widgets to act as a front end? I think this is an excellent idea. 8) If you guys can get a webserver with cgi running on the 605 (there is usually one inluded in busybox). Then I think it would be pretty easy to make widgets that can interact with the ...

I think what we have here is a combination of the "hardcore" hackers, who want a custom kernel to boot up (But then probably won't produce many useful apps) and the more practical peeps, who will be happy with adding functionality to the current archos (Hopefully automatically on boot, not requirin...

For me, all I want is Ogg Vorbis support. A simple request, one I am even willing to pay for. Get a PMA and install openPMA... :D That is my simple motivation. So if Archos is watching, you could easily solve this problem for me. A lot of companies are afraid to support ogg because they do not trus...
