Re: another question about change HDD

hi, i think most hacks needs my archos 5 on working condition to run them, if the HDD died without any hacks installed, can i still replace hdd without sending back to archos? I'm afraid not. You need to be able to boot the device to avos in order to actually apply the hacks. If your hdd is dead, y...

Re: Archos 5 does not run Android unless it came that way?

That's great news. When was the open firmware released? Archos just moved up several notches in my book. Engadget had it on November 28: http://i.engadget.com/2009/11/28/archos-releases-developer-edition-firmware-for-internet-tablets/ I think at that time the SDE was out a few days already. Please ...

Re: Archos 5 does not run Android unless it came that way?

It's really too bad Archos does not make it possible to install Android on the older A5 IMT. Well, Archos have published that SDE firmware that allows for user-installed alternative operating systems. This is a very new development and no usable results have been published yet but I know that there...

They used gen6 hardware for development of the gen7 firmware for quite some time.

Well, the firmware update will only start when the device is connected to DC power (either USB or AC adapter).

Re: TUT: GUY FAWKES HACK WITH NO DVR STATION -HOW TO!

Yeah I know but it doesn't go to the recovery screen. I hold it long for so long that it just turns back off. Press Power-on and Vol+ at the same time. When the screen lights, stop pressing the Power-on key but keep pressing the Vol+ key until you get to the recovery menu. Navigate the menu using V...

Re: Archos 5 does not run Android unless it came that way?

There are two different devices: the "Archos 5" and the "Archos 5 Internet Tablet" or "a5" and "a5it", respectively. The a5it runs Android while the a5 does not (yet). The confusion comes from the fact that originally the older a5 was marketed as "Archos 5 Internet Media Tablet". When the a5it came ...

Re: Archos 7 SDE

So I tried to downgrade back to the stock 1.6.54, using the instructions from Archos, which say you can just paste the firmware to the root directory (which I did to install SDE) and use the "repair disk" menu. (On+Vol Down) That doesn't work: the Archos just keeps booting the SDE. Be sure to keep ...

Re: Hacking the power button

Has anyone attempted to hack the power button on an Archos? My archos will be in the ceiling in the back of my mini van. I'd like to run a wire through the ceiling and into the dashboard to a power switch. I want to be able to power on the Archos from my dashboard. I think the Archos will resume au...

Re: ├àngstr├Âm on Archos 5, a development diary.

Chebuzz: You are absolutely correct. The OMAP3525 (used in the A5 and A7) does NOT have a SGX core in it. Why Archos chose to be cheap in this way kinda baffles me. $550 USD for my A7 and they chose to be cheap with $15 or $20 price difference (to them) between the CPUs? Well, why spend $15 more if...

It seems to be a sideeffect of the screen plugin. Could be some debug output. I don't know the meaning, though.

Filenames apparently are "zImage" and "initramfs.cpio.gz". I put them directly on the root of the data partition.

sure, but please wait for us to actually add QuickTime to the 605 first.... I'm under the impression that the 605 is discontinued, and will no longer be supported. Please prove me wrong. I'm pretty sure the above comment was just a joke. What "nz" was trying to say is that a QuickTime exploit surel...

Archos use "init.cpio.gz", not "initramfs.cpio.gz", in their normal firmwares so I suppose this will be the same for the SDE.

Re: UI idea

I prefer portrait mode over landscape mode, too. But I think it would be better to rotate the screen in the other direction such that the volume keys are on the top-right corner of the device. This way it should be possible to trigger the keys using the index finger of the left hand holding the devi...
