Re: Is the Archos Fans forum dead or dying?

In short yes. Certainly the G9 section is circling the plughole. I suspect that as the G9s start to fail, die or just grind to a halt users will be offloading them, shoving them in drawers or giving them to children. Archos do seem to be putting out much fewer firmware updates on new kit. Either the...

Re: Letter writing

Hi there Olive Office is a free office suite that offers decent performance given its freefree. Alternatively, some of the paid for office apps, such as Docs to Go or Office Suite Pro are good. These have wireless printing built in. You could also try Google's own Docs app, but to be effective you r...

Ian

See http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/rights/gen_rights_en.htm

Sellers of consumer goods within the EU are obliged to guarantee the conformity of the goods with the contract for a period of two years after the delivery of the goods.

That's an EC directive.

Re: Extending RAM

Ordinarily, fw upgrade wouldn't touch physical RAM...

But...I believe that 1Gb G9s only showed up 512Mb of RAM under Android 3.x. To get the full benefit it was necessary to upgrade the firmware to Android 4.0.

Perhaps this is what's meant ?

Re: Anyone tried resoldering the power/USB port?

Hi As this is a known design flaw (OK, they haven't coughed to it but how many G9s have come back with this problem?), there's nothing to lose by contacting Archos and laying it out to them. I'd stress how carefully you've used your tablet. Are you in Europe? EC regulations stipulate electronic good...

Re: What should Archos do?

Having been an Archos watcher for a while now, I think they need to focus on a smaller, clearly differentiated range of products using common platforms (eg Allwinner, Rockchip, TI...) and specs. The G9 series failed to reach JB owing to a crazy fragmentation of hardware setups. Archos is turning int...

Re: after sale service

Thanks! Went on their facebook page but it looks like a shop window rather than a customer interface. Managed to contact them by phone (after 4 attemps and a 5 minutes conversation) but again it is only for technical problems and not the repairing service....The poor guy on the other end couldn't d...

Just rolled onto 4.0.28 and so far it seems OK. Oddly 4.0.26 was stable for me.

Re: Jelly Bean! Jelly Bean! Jelly Bean!

I guess this means a trip to Cyanogenmod 10 is coming up for my G9 80. Anyone had any experience with CM10? From reading around, I'm not clear if the Archos 3G stick works under CM10. Can anyone say what the situation is right now?

Regards

Re: Let's get serious about the G9 for a moment

So Archos replied via FaceBook about a JB upgrade for G9s. Apparently the different hardware permuations of the series poses issues (different processors, RAM, and the 3G stick) but they are still investigating. One wonders if they do have JB running on G9s, but it isn't stable/optimised etc. Now th...

Re: Let's get serious about the G9 for a moment

Seeing as this is a subject close to our hearts, I asked Archos on Facebook... In short, the service person who replies didn't know but said they'd look into it. FB is the best way of getting answers from Archos these days and whoever writes the responses seems fairly good at getting answers. Look u...

Re: Firmware 4.0.25 Live - Report Bugs!

Just updated to 4.0.26 and immediately it seems I have much more free RAM on boot. Overall, my perception is that the system is more responsive and faster. Will test the 3G key throughout today. Hopefully this will resolve the long-standing issue with 3G...

Re: Firmware 4.0.25 Live - Report Bugs!

I upgraded my 101 g9 turbo to 4.0.25 last night, I did the update via my 3G connection In my way to college, like I always I would enable the 3G connection, well, today it's not working at all The device is not detecting it at all, the led is blinking, logcat keeps showing "Tickling usb bus", but t...

Re: Firmware 4.0.25 Live - Report Bugs!

The upper USB port doesn't work anymore. No hard disk. No usb pen. No 3g key. Seems that they are On, because the led are On, but there is no more communication. Now i've to connect the 3g key on the microUSB using the usb_otg cable. Could be that the ribbon cable inside the tablet is broken. I had...

Re: Firmware 4.0.25 Live - Report Bugs!

Hi Just downloaded this and installed to my G9 80. All seems well, slightly less RAM than previously but not much. GPS now works like it's never worked before. I'm inside a large office, surrounded by glass and steel etc...and I got 4 satellites solidly locked! Awesome. Haven't had the chance to try...

Re: Hanging on boot logo after latest update

Did any of you resolve the issue? I have ordered a replacement from Amazon. I will not be updating the firmware! Pretty sure it is permanently bricked, as recovery is not working anymore. Had to RMA the tablet. Guess Archos has some special hardware to repair it. Archos confirmed customers will get...

Re: I've been using the 101 XS every day for nearly a month

My wife took stock of a 101xs today, bought direct from Archos after a delay in delivery. Coming from a Mac for productivity, there's some curve for her but she has an Android phone so I'm hopeful... While setting it up, it felt fast and very responsive. Chrome flies along and multi-tasking feels go...

Re: ARCHOS 101 G9 ICS move2sd

This appears to be common to tablets - I note from feedback on the Play store that some Samsung tab users can't get it to work. From the FAQ on A0soft's Website (http://android.a0soft.com) I cannot find the "Move to xxx" button from application detailed information window. Moving app to SD is handle...
