Re: Best Firmware Available

birdiebnl 21.04 (Android 2.1) is the best. Fast, and stable, it's everything the Archos ROM should have been. Market works well (though sometimes it's reluctant to get started, and sometimes it will STOP working.) I hear hvdwolf's 2.1 is equally good, but I've never tried it myself since birdiebnl's...

Re: UiForUpdate source code is here!

I wanted to use Eclipse to build the apk, so I used apktool directly to unpack the apk, then jd-gui to decompile the code into java. Jd did pretty good, but I had to translate a few methods from smali to java by hand to get it fully working. To build, I let Eclipse compile and build an unsigned apk,...

Re: UiForUpdate source code is here!

The (0.0.0) thing annoyed me, and I wanted to see if it was possible to decompile a simple app. Turns out it's possible, but the tools generate bad code. The only thing different in this source is the formatting of the English message, which lines up the version numbers in a column, and replaces "0....

Re: Custom ROM for A7HTV2: Android 2.2 froyo.18

I just installed this rom, and overall it works very nicely. But it seems quite a bit slower than birdiebnl 21.04, and a bit less stable as well. I can trace some crashes to my own fault, but then I just saw Market crash, which (I think) I've never seen on Eclair. To bosset: The Archos uses a coproc...

UiForUpdate source code is here!

UiForUpdate annoyed me, so I decompiled the code. (Don't tell Archos, it's probably copyrighted.) Here is the Eclipse project for the app, tested and working on my custom rom. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9112508/UiForUpdate.7z Up sides: * English message is formatted nicer. Down sides: * Must run under ...

Re: flashing linux to archos7 home tablet v2

Yes, there is a way. But nobody knows what it is. You're the one that gets the honor of figuring it out! 8) No, there aren't any "proper" Linux distros for the Archos. I haven't even heard of one for *any* ARM tablet. If you really want a full Linux in your pocket, you'd probably be better off hitti...

Reporting spam on the Wiki?

There's quite alot of spam on the wiki; the orphaned pages page is good at finding them, but it's time consuming to erase one page at a time. Is there a better way to deal with this?

Re: CANNOT CONNECT TO XP

Until it can boot it won't connect to anything. Not true, RKAndroidBatchUpgrade can talk to it when it's fully off. It sounds like you've done most everything, but I'll tell you what I know. Switch unit to Lock, poke the reset hole. If it turns on, poke reset again, but I've never had my unit fail ...

Re: 7HT Charging Time

It takes quite a few hours to charge. Mine almost never turns amber the same day I plug it in, but it's always amber the next morning.

Re: archos7 v2 fail!

The only way I know to recover a bricked Archos is with RKAndroidBatchUpgrade. Slide the power switch to Lock and poke the reset hole, and RKAndroidBatchUpgrade should be able to see the unit again and allow you to update. If that doesn't work, I don't know of any alternatives. :(

Custom firmware displays wrong boot image

I'm trying to build a custom firmware (2.1) from source, and having all sorts of trouble. Current problem is that when the system boots, it shows the birdiebnl boot screen (the firmware I had on there before my custom ones) followed by my own boot screen. Why is it doing this? The birdiebnl image is...

Really? My copy of the latest ROM from Archos actually says this:

Code: Select all

ro.product.model=A70BHT
ro.board.platform=rk2808sk
birdiebnl 21.4 says the same thing.

Re: Help with video formants(I've read the other threads)

I couldn't get Handbrake to work; sound played, but picture was black. I've had good luck with the free version of DIVX. Home Theater Profile, 1-pass, bitrate tuned to give me ~700MB files; everything else is default. Audio is MP3 at 96 or 112kb to save space. Encoded using VirtualDub where possible...

Re: Custom ROM for A7HTV2: GB 2.3.5 - Unofficial CM7 port

I've been trying to get the video to work. I've tried moving over the lib mp4 etc. files but seems to make no difference. Adding the line to the build.prop for Hardware acceleration for video does not anything really. I did exactly the same for all decoding libs and it didn't help either. I also tr...

Re: Custom ROM for A7HTV2: Android 2.1 (7HTV2_21.04)

Thanks buckets, this kernel has been working great! There's one big problem though: Sound is goofy -- It's as if the sound system runs twice per second, and will only start sounds on those half-second boundaries. If an app wants to make a noise, it has to wait for the next cycle to trigger. Video ap...
