its not possible because Archos doesnt want to support Gen8 devices anymore.

I can't imagine where this information came from. The Archos 70IT barely meets the minimum hardware requirements for Gingerbread. If you installed it, I don't think you would have a happy experience using your machine.

Are you following the instructions in the User Manual?

After "mounting" the Archos, it should show in your file explorer as another drive (two drives if you have a memory card installed).

Can someone suggest a place on eBay or Amazon where I can get decent screen protector for original A70 IT which just covers screen. Got some from eBay which were stated as 7" but they cover the entire topface of device! My scissors are just not up to scratch for cutting them!

I didn't know that. On my machine, the manual is readily available by listing all programs and selecting "User Manual".
