Re: Touchscreen constantly needs recalibrating
I've had the same problem. Sadly, AFAIK the only solution is to send it back to Archos for repair.

Re: What speed microSDHC ....
I use class 2 16GB cards in my 101. They're pretty slow to write to (Teracopy reports average transfer speeds of 2.1 MB/s, slower than a run-of-the-mill USB stick), but they play just about anything flawlessly, including 1080p .mkv files.

Re: Archos 101 loosing screen calibration
My first 101 had the same problem. Nothing could fix it, so in the end I sent it back. It was replaced without questions asked.
AFAICT, this kind of problem (predictably recurring calibration mayhem with capacitive digitizers) is invariably a hardware problem and cannot be fixed in software. Sorry ...

Re: Auxiliary battery pack
Do you think that I have found a right one?

Thanks for your help.
Yup, that looks like a good'un.
It also looks impressively expensive; I've bought chargers, including such a cable/connector for less, but if you can't find anything else, you probably ...

Re: Auxiliary battery pack
Find a cable with USB male on one side and a "classic" Nokia plug (3 mm) on the other. It's the same size as the Archos charger.

Cr*p! I forgot about overdrive. That does indeed make stuff getting done more smoothly.

Try connecting without using the disk drive option on the phone. It could be that two automounters are conflicting.

Sofar any card reader I've used has worked, including an old "special" one for (and with) non-HC 4 GB SD cards.

Re: usb confirmd works for external deices
Well... it's hard to describe the origin of a problem when noone's sure how it starts. And as for the solution, I gave two: a certain one and a hit-and-miss one.
And anyway, common sense is overrated.

Re: ram of the tablet
Regrettably, for me the 101 performs perfectly adequately for what I use it. I bought it as a media player/comic book reader/light surfing machine and it does those things smoothly. From the published specifications I really wasn't expecting any more.

Archos does make Windows XP tablets. I don't know of any version of Windows XP that will run on the ARM architecture.

No.
I don't even know if those things even work (as in: "Do something useful") on a pc. Does anyone remember those RAM-doubler "programs" for Windows from the old days?

I've been following your rather confusing rant on USB and people's attempts to enlighten you. Since your latest post indicates that you still don't seem to get it, I decided to make a polite attempt myself (trust me, this is a big deal for me -- not the attempt, the polite part).
