Re: Time to say goodbye...

Another goodbye as well... I just upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S3. Feels pretty much the same as an Archos 43 paired via bluetooth DUN to my phone. Nearly identical weight/dimensions. Even the Archos case fits the S3. But I get an upgrade to a much better screen, upgrade to capacitive screen, upgrad...

Re: Firmware 2.4.83 released - report bugs here

Can anyone confirm whether or not they fixed the bug where apps report no network connection over bluetooth DUN?

I won't bother upgrading if this isn't fixed.

Re: Firmware 2.4.82 released - report bugs here

The problem of the tethering still exists, so I just copied and pasted here from my previous post on the FW 2.4.80 & 2.4.81 threads (1)Bluetooth tethering from my 3g phone works very well. It used to be hit or miss, now it connects everytimes. But it cannot stream videos on youtube when tetheri...

Re: Short comparison of Archos 43 vs Samsung Galaxy 5.0 play

I agree with your impressions on the player. But the Archos for me has one thing that tips all scales: Bluetooth DUN. Bluetooth DUN saves me $300+ per year on data charges, since the Archos tethers to my dumbphone with cheap unlimited 3G data. That alone tips the "value" scale far in Archo...

Re: Firmware 2.4.80 released - report bugs here

I've now tried going back to the past 6 firmwares, all with with full reinitialization, and the result is the same: there is simply no GPU acceleration anymore, so I can only conclude that the official firmware with the overclocked GPU broke my hardware. Nice going Archos I'll never purchase anothe...

Re: Do you still use your gen 8?

Still use my Archos 43 every single day. Its the modern version of the palmpilot: organizer, internet, apps, in the perfect size. I even bought the Graffiti keyboard app for days I feel nostalgic. I can do DUN tether, so I don't get gouged by the cellcos like I would with a smartphone, and since I h...

Re: Firmware 2.4.80 released - report bugs here

For those with powersave issues, a lot of the recent versions of more common apps have added "prevent system sleep" permissions. I don't know why they do this, but if you poweroff while one of those apps is active, the proper deep sleep doesn't occur and the Archos continues to run full CP...

Re: Firmware 2.4.80 released - report bugs here

To downgrade to 2.4.19 I didn't need to root my Archos. I just downloaded the aos file linked here with the Archos web browser, and the Archos firmware updater proceeded to install the firmware downgrade. It fixed the bug I have in 2.4.80 with apps reporting "no network" on Bluetooth DUN.

Re: Firmware 2.4.80 released - report bugs here

I found a major new bug that began with 2.4.65 and remains in 2.4.80. When you use bluetooth DUN to connect to the internet, some apps no longer believe there is an active internet connection. There must be an operating system "is connection active" API call, that is returning "No&quo...

Re: Firmware 2.4.19 released - report bugs here

My biggest problem (regarding bluetooth tethering) remains in app 2.4.19. Reproduce: - Configure bluetooth tethering - Set power management settings to enable "deep sleep" - Use the pushbutton widget to enable bluetooth, then to turn on tether to a phone ... This is where your problem lie...

Re: Firmware 2.4.19 released - report bugs here

On the new firmware, Angry Birds seems about the same speed as before with the network off. (I run my Archos 43 on Overdrive) With wifi or bluetooth tether on, Angry Birds always lagged. But on the new firmware, the lag is much more severe. I think there is a higher prioritization placed on wifi act...

Re: Firmware 2.4.19 released - report bugs here

This new firmware is a HUGE improvement for the keyboard on Archos 43. They either substantially tuned the resistive screen, or the UI fluidity improvements fixed the keyboard as a side effect. I can type as fast as I possibly can, and only get 1-2 errors per sentence. In prior firmware, I had to de...

Re: New firmware today aug 18

I'm going to post in the regular thread too, but the stock keyboard is substantially improved. They definitely tuned the resistive screen.

If i type as fast as I possibly can, I get about 2 errors per sentence. I used to have to slow down substantially just to prevent one error per word.

What's the latest on system storage?

I'm on 2.3.81 right now, and with the latest round of Android Market updates, somthing's bloated and I'm out of system storage, even after moving any app that would let me into internal storage. What are the latest capabilities on viewing/moving/clearing system storage? Is there any way to see if I'...

No pocket Gen 9? That's a shame

It was disappointing to see that no pocket version of the Gen9 was released. I absolutely love the 43, but was hoping a capacitive Gen9 version w better hardware (cpu/camera/gps) would come out. Anyone know Archos's history around how long they continue to sell old products? I'm expecting I might ke...

Re: Why did you get an ARCHOS Tablet (PDA) and not a Smartph

Loving my Archos 4.3 so far! Believe it or not, I am still a fan of the true PDA and I still buy parts keeping my modified Palm LifeDrive humming along. The Archos 4.3 is the closest thing I've seen to what a PDA used to be (before it was killed by the Smartphone), besides the iTouch. I'm one of th...

Re: new firmware 2.3.26 - report bugs here

Since I installed 2.3.26 (I skipped over 2.3.20), I've had a new wifi issue. When connecting to wifi, powering off into deep sleep, then resuming from deep sleep, most of the time the wifi won't auto-reconnect. I have to go to settings -> wireless -> manage wifi connections. Once I enter this screen...

Re: new firmware 2.3.26 - report bugs here

Attempting to tap the bluetooth tether button on the homescreen widget, while at the same time changing the portrait/landscape accelerometer orientation, usually causes a FC in settings. eg: pick up the archos 43, tap the tether button, then put down the 43 while I wait (usually changing the orienta...
