Re: Beware of buying from Sears.com
Just one of those companies who thinks that customer service is a necessary evil and a expense that needs to be minimized. It seems funny that PayPal had to tell me what Sears was doing wrong so the refund did not process, and the dispute with PayPal is what finally got the refund to actually happen...

Beware of buying from Sears.com
I had a recent issue with Sears that I thought others should be warned of. For those not wanting to read the full issue, Sears took 2 weeks to refund my money on an order that was cancelled by them at no request of my own. This is completely inappropriate IMO. I purchased some fitness equipment on 1...

OfficeSuite Pro 5 is Amazon App of the day (expired)
Free app of the day on Amazon is OfficeSuite Pro. I almost bought an office package last week, glad I waited. This is a $15 for free.

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich
I thought it was worth a comment to point out that Asus has said they'll upgrade the original Transformer to ICS before the year is out. (see AndroidPolice). In terms of other devices I think most Samsung ones have at least a decent chance of an upgrade this year, although it does depend more on th...

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich
Buy a device for what it has, not what it might get. Archos G9 comes with Honeycomb, which is a plenty good OS. I doubt anyone will be overly disappointed unless you really want an app that is not working right on it. Archos may upgrade the G9s to ICS, but there is by no means any guarantee it will ...

Re: STOP and just read this!
It's probably the only tablet that can play HD videos off a memory card. FAT has a 4Gig file limit, NTFS doesn't, and your HD video are typically 4.5->12Gigs. I actually have my sd cards formatted for NTFS. afaik, no other tablet supports ntfs, so even if they do claim to be able to play HD, you wo...

Re: Archos needs to do a lot of damage control over G9
Hi, checkout the CNET review here: http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/archos-g9-8-inch/4505-3126_7-34841245.html?tag=rvwBody Still believe Archos either needs to do a lot better for $300 or drop the price. There's no way out. Surprised they did not mention RAM in the review, though they did mention la...

Re: Archos G9 1.2Ghz October and 1.5Ghz December availabilit
If it was not for the powerful AV playback capability, I would buy an Acer Iconia Tab A500 as it's one of few HC tablets that spot a USB host meant for connecting USB HDDs... And it works beautifully on the A500. I have one and use it frequently. No issues with card readers, flash drives, or spinni...

Re: Archos RAM
No amount of memory optimization is going to overcome half the RAM. That is a load that Archos is trying to use to placate consumers who cry over half the RAM. Now is 512MB of RAM enough for a Honeycomb Tablet? I don't know, and Archos may have a valid argument that with the faster processor and ban...

The fact you can power a full hard drive off the 3g slot is pretty slick. I am assuming you cannot mount two storage devices in it at once correct? But I figure you could put a storage device in one and a mouse single in the other. Is the micro host full power?

Re: Archos RAM
Let's put it this way. On my Acer A500 running 3.2 I can tell you the available RAM. I have no music playing, no Flash, no videos running. I have a few widgets, and am running ADW launcher. Available RAM is 346MB right now out of the 1GB total. It states 240MB used. Acer has a very vanilla OS, they ...

Re: iPad 2 vs Archos 101 Internet Tablet
Well, that is a night and day difference. The "better" device is clearly the Ipad 2. I would never want one, but if you lined them up specs to specs the Ipad would win in a landslide. Now if you take into account a lot of different factors such as USB/SD card, price, customization it is not so clear...

Re: usb cf/sd card reader support.
The HDD version does not have an SD card slot, just like in the G8. I believe this is a function of Android and how Archos has to manipulate the OS to read the HD. You may or may not be able to hook your camera up to the device directly. That is hit or miss on the camera, so you will just have to gi...

Re: why 250gb and no 32 gb?
Why not use the USB for external storage? You can plug in a jump drive, a SD card reader, or an external HD. If Archos updated the power out of the micro USB host, you can run an external HD to move files back and forth. I believe the reason the HDD models do not have a USB slot is the way Android r...

Re: Archos RAM
Processor <=> Memory Bandwidth <=> Apps/OS/RAM/ROM/WiFi/Upnp/Samba/Videoplayback/modem/everything. The memory bandwidth is what matters more than anything else. A dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor like the Tegra2 is slowed down by its too slow memory bandwidth. Memory bandwidth is the key to everyt...

Re: usb cf/sd card reader support.
Craig, will the G9 machines support the use of an external usb cf/sd card readers? I'm thinking/hoping that the HDD models would make a good portable hard drive to dump camera files to whilst on trips. Faster and easier to get to than a laptop. Easier to keep charged as well. I'm wanting to use a G...

Re: why 250gb and no 32 gb?
I think the 250GB drive on the device is one of the most important selling points of the units. A lot of people want storage without extra drives/devices. It was the main reason I bought my G8. I can see offering a 32GB model, but not if it is beyond their reach while doing a 16GB and 250GB. You can...

Re: Archos needs to do a lot of damage control over G9
smaller screen Actually, the smaller screen for me is something that differentiates the Archos 80 G9 from the competition. For me, a 10" screen is to big, while 7" is too small (I currently own an Archos 70IT). So I'm looking for something with 8-9", and the 4:3 aspect ratio is a plus to. +1 That i...

Re: Archos needs to do a lot of damage control over G9
I paid $300 for my Acer A500. I have said before I have no idea why people would pay that for an inferior product. Same speed processor, less RAM, less storage, smaller screen, no full size USB (the one on the back will only work for the 3g dongle). Strange the way Archie decided to handle things.

Re: Archos RAM
You can't compare an old generation running Foryo to the current generations running Honeycomb. The answer is that 512MB was fine then, an 1GB should be what is needed now. There is a reason why every other decent tablet out there with Honeycomb comes with 1GB RAM. It is what is needed to ensure it ...
