Re: Storage?

EDIT: Just visited Archos' site and found the specs on the Gen9 tablets. They look to have 16GB flash + SD OR a 250GB HD. Which means the 250GB HD version is either going to have some really neat trickery going on OR it will be as I feared, a refresh of the A70 250 GB Gen8 tablet. Well that tricker...

Re: Storage?

My only concern is how Archos is going to address app storage. I am sure that the OS itself will be flashed and stored on onboard flash memory. The question after is how the 250 gig HD is going to be used. As it stands now Honeycomb recognizes INTERNAL flash as the place to install apps and store ap...

Re: Archos 101 Home Tablet at CES 2011

Well regardless if the IT line is supposed to be a higher end model than the HT line the one thing that sticks in my craw is the 256 meg in the Gen8 tablets. Please Archos repartition the damned Flash NAND and give us 1 to 1.5 gig! How about an easy root to go along with it, not SDE firmware, so I c...

Re: Android 2.3 gingerbread update

Well I can see 2.3 coming by the second quarter of 2011. There is no difference in resource requirements between Froyo and Gingerbread and Gingerbread, due to tweaks, runs a lot smoother and quicker than Froyo on my Droid. Knowing that these tablets have essentially the same specs as a Droid we shou...

Re: Adding RAM to the 101

I don't care how efficient the operating system is, I still want more ram. I'm a computer guy on a budget, I like systems that let me add more physical resources over time(ram, cpu, hard disk). I don't care how small the biggest app is today, tomorrow there is going to be a bigger one. And sure, on...

/sdcard -> /mnt/storage/sdcard
Nope. We don't have r/w, read as root access, to the system partition.

Re: Is This File System Supposed to Be This Way?

The easiest way to address this is for Archos to separate the locations. For instance on a Viewsonic GTab the internal storage is sdcard and the sdcard is sdcard2. It is a simple yet elegant way of differentiating things.

Repartition the device A70/8 and A101 8/16 to have at least 1 gig if not more for the /data partition.

[quote="Darkseider] Who is Archos to "choose" an ideal number of apps for ME or YOU or anyone else? mmm... Re: Anyone got Dungeon Defenders to work?

Now if they didn't kill the temp root using z4root with update 2.0.71 we could have used a 256 meg swapfile which is the trick used to play the game on the Original Droid.

Re: What would you like to ask Archos at CES?

Will they at a minimum address the app storage space on the A70/8 and A101 models by increasing the /data partition from 300 meg to at least the 1.4 gig like it is on the A70/250?

OK. missed that one. Anyway. Now that we know without a doubt that it is a totally arbitrary size that Archos chose I would love to see this get some real traction. Re: Missing apps solved - maybe?

OK. First off NEVER move your launcher or any app that you are using the widgets for to SD. Second. They aren't missing just need to refresh on the initial read. If the refresh is taking too long or just times out go to settings >> Applications >> All >> Launcher >> Force Stop Then hit the home but...

Re: Another thing I noticed

So along with apparently being unfamiliar with moving apps to SD the OP thinks the kernel version sets the Android version? FYI the Android version (which is also displayed in the About settings) is 2.2.1. Prior to the release of Gingerbread recently it was the newest version of Android. When...

Re: Missing apps solved - maybe?

I saw a few posts on here where a few folks said apps were disappearing off their device. I haven't seen this problem till lastnite after the battery died and I had to turn the device back on again. First time rebooted since it was purchased and in use. When the device came up I noticed a couple of...

Re: Poll: Increased app storage at the expense of media stor

Nope. Reformat would be necessary as you are resizing the entire file system and remounting the block devices. A reformat would be trivial though as re-downloading any apps is nothing more than a few clicks and paid apps follow your google account on any Android device, with a maximum of 8 register...

Re: Poll: Increased app storage at the expense of media stor

EDIT: What else can be done if they don't want to deal with CS issues is make this firmware available as DOWNLOAD only and not mandatory for those that are satisfied with their current partitioning. I would be happy with that as well. I think we may be converging on an answer. Is it possible for Ar...

Re: Poll: Increased app storage at the expense of media stor

Perhaps someone has already thought or asked about this: Does this change with 2.3 or 3.0? I understand Google is making changes to the OS to be more tablet friendly, and maybe this is a moot point with an upcoming change in those releases? Or as Joey says, "It's Moo." nope. More tablet friendly is...
