Re: Selling Archos 101

My opinion....go with the Acer. I purchased the Archos 101 and like you felt it served its purpose. with the tablet options now it is hard to believe someone would even consider an Archos. It doesn't come close to the quality and capabilities of the Acer, Asus, Xoom...or many others. I have both th...

Re: Honeycomb Apps

Can honeycomb apps be installed on a froyo device like the 101? I'm getting to the point where I want to sell it, but this could help ease my frustrations. If they cannot be run, what are some tablet friendly (for the 10 inch screen) apps that don't look super cheap? Thanks, Nick If you're in the U...

Re: Post Netflix android app?

Even if you have a rooted device and get Netflix working, it's a huge memory hog--consuming almost 17MB. That coupled with the software you need to root the device, you may have memory problems if you have even a modest number of applications installed. I don't understand your connecting low memory...

Re: Post Netflix android app?

Netflix is in the official Android Market now. No need to side-load it or anything, if you have the market app on your tablet. The Netflix .apk file is protected and you won't be able to download it with an unsupported device unless it's rooted and the build.prop file has been edited to mimic a sup...

Re: Use of At&T braodband USB device

If you really want mobile broadband on a gen8 Archos tablet, you'll need to invest in MIFI. There are no Android USB drivers for USB broadband modems at present. I also wouldn't get too attached to using any USB device with an Archos for the simple reason that their Chinese contractor has designed a...

Does the stock Froyo kernel support IPV6?

I've read conflicting reports about whether the stock Froyo kernel supports IPV6. I finally set up a tunnel and can browse to IPV6 sites on my computers, but not with the Archos 101. If the stock Froyo kernel supports IPV6, I wonder why Archos has disabled it. If it doesn't, can we gain that functio...

Re: Archos 101 - Will we ever see a Honeycomb update

Did you really read the statement of google, why they postponed the release of the sourcecode? Despite Google's denials, I tend to agree with the business and tech publications describing how Google is tightening it's control on Android to reduce discrepancies in functionality and features among OE...

Re: Archos 101 - Will we ever see a Honeycomb update

Google is beginning to tightly control Honeycomb and future releases of Android. I don't think you'll see Archos releasing an update to incorporate Honeycomb for its gen8 tablets because it has to want Google's approval for Honeycomb and Market support for their gen9 tablets. (Despite their saying t...

Re: Android in Business use

If you work in a corporate environment, check with your IT department before buying an Android device, otherwise you may find yourself owning a device that you can only use at home for recreational purposes. Android has been totally lacking in security and many corporations won't allow Android phone...

Re: Google Voice how to?

Thats good, I looked thru every setting last night and there is no wizard that I can see, or any settings that look remotely like "creat a new pbx account". I'm starting to wonder exactly what kind of Sipdroid app I have. You won't get the automated options unless you uninstall and then r...

If you use Sipdroid, you won't need the GV app installed.

Re: What am I missing (GV and Sipdriod)??

Warlore, Sorry, I didn't proof that message well. My keyboard on the 101 keeps changing some of the words I type. The service you should check out is Sipgate.com. They don't recycle numbers the same way as Ipkall so you shouldn't have as great a likelihood of getting a number that was previously reg...

Re: Google Voice how to?

This is kind of what I mean, I did not get any kind of setup wizard with sipdroid, just a lot of options and little documentation. I'm a long-term VOIP user and already had a pbxes.com account setup with my GV number before I bought the 101. I didn't allow the wizard (the automated setup screens as...

Re: Google Voice how to?

For those with GV numbers, I would suggest using the free Sipdroid ap. When you install it, the setup wizard gives you the option to allow it to automatically set up your GV number with a free pbxes.org account. You do need to stay within the alotted minutes provided for the free pbxes accounts.

Re: What am I missing (GV and Sipdriod)??

Welcome. With respect to using Ipkall numbers, you need to remember that they recycle numbers that have lapsed when not used frequently, which can complicate things if it was precisely associated with a GV number. I'm not sure whether software is still issuing free US numbers, but you could check. Y...

Re: TENTATIVE Gen 9 info

Interesting. That is the first I have seen with a date associated. I am curious if they plan on still keeping the Gen 8 going as a mid-tier while the 9 can be the top tier. Price point would be an obvious difference. In a perfect world, Android becomes so smooth and awesome, that Archos easily upda...

Re: TENTATIVE Gen 9 info

For Archos to succeed at a new straetegy of aligning with cellular providers, they're going to need to enforce stringent Quality Contol. Cellular providers won't tolerate a high return rate, at least in North America where the providers offer subsidized purchase prices in return for locking customer...

Re: power button problems

How is the power adapter poorly designed and executed? If you read the forums, you'll see reports of power cord failures from the gen 8 Initial release. The design issues include the plug for the devices being too long so that there's no tight fit, which has prevented some units from charging. The ...

Re: Adobe flash 10.2 is out!!

I now have the new release running after tracking down what was slowing my system and causing freezes. I had recently re-activated the option to use a pattern to lock the unit. Turning that off then rebooting and re-installing the newest flash from market has my system functioning smoothly again.
