Re: Honeycomb
Google released the GPL and Apache licensed code for Honeycomb, as required. They haven't released their proprietary licensed code, since they say they are being contracted to customize that code for each platform, and it's not for general use. That is in compliance with the licenses, but means that ...

Re: Honeycomb
People said Honeycomb source would be available on it's release as well. The source is not available until it is actually available. I'm hoping that it will be available when icecream is released, but I wont speculate that it will be available until I see that it is actually released.
While ...

Ice Cream Sandwich will be out in 2-3 months, it's an official release and source will be available. Why even look at Honeycomb?

But Archos isn't buying 100 quantity. They are contracting with a manufacturing house that buys in million unit quantities, like Foxconn. It's the same as the dram manufacturers, and the reason simm prices are so low.

Two A101IT, no problems with the new FW. Are you overclocking? The new FW sped up the graphics, so OCing may cause issues.

Re: Archos RAM
With RAM prices continuing to crash, less than 1GB makes little sense. I can get 8GB DDR3 1.5v for my desktop for $70, and the U.S. dollar isn't doing so well. The difference in cost of 1GB instead of 512MB must be in the $2-$3 range at this point. It makes no sense to skimp on RAM.

Re: ARCHOS 101 16GB - will they play avi ?
Most of the time when you download a video, it will be marked as a divx (usually avi files) or x264 (usually mkv files) - both play no problems with the stock player. It's only very rarely that you'll come across something with an unusual codec, and then RockPlayer will do the job.

Re: ARCHOS 101 16GB - will they play avi ?
Yes, the Archos will play avi files, but avi is just a container. Most codecs (how the movie is encoded) are supported. For example x264 and divx for video, mp3 or aac for audio. The full list is:
Video Playback:
ÔÇó MPEG-42 HD (up to 720p, 30 fps@6Mbps)

Re: WiFi connection dropping - do I need to replace the tabl
Make sure you know which device is having the problem. I've seen routers that reboot when certain devices are attached, or using some encryption (specifically WPA). A firmware update or reconfiguration on the router solves the problem. If your router has a log, check that first.

Re: A70 and A101 become very unstable since 15 May 2011
Our 101s aren't having any issues at all (one rooted, one not). Maybe you should compare your installed applications to see if you have a common app or app vendor that's misbehaving or malicious.

Re: Are any of these app stores useful and trustworthy?
AppBrain is just a management tool on top of the Google Market. It lets you create and share application lists, which is handy. Installations are of software from the Google Market, using Google's API. If you find the functionality of AppBrain useful, there's no additional risk in the software you ...

Re: Watch Movies on Archos 70
Yeah, it sounds like there's an issue reading your DVDs; you're not really getting to the encoding part. It could be a drive issue or a driver issue. You can also try cleaning the lens in the DVD drive (gently) with an alcohol wipe. That sometimes helps.

Re: Watch Movies on Archos 70
I just converted all my Buffy, Angel and Firefly DVDs with Handbrake, for my Archos 101. 268 TV episodes, and they all play perfectly. These are the settings I used:
