Re: Transfer pics from camera to Archos 5IT without dock ...

Just for completeness, there are other options: - If your camera has bluetooth (mine does), you can simply use bluetooth obex to transfer the files - If your camera can appear as a mass storage device over USB, you can plug it into the Archos battery dock and trasfer files that way - Eye-Fi have jus...

Re: With android 2.2 out-does that mean apps for 1.6 will di

I am a developer and I can tell you that apps can degrade gracefully to older os versions. It is a bit of effort though, so many devs might not bother. One of my apps works down to 1.5, but if you have 1.6 or higher, it enables additional features. This does not require multiple versions of the app ...

Re: Request to test a specific application

I have used Torque before and it works fine! The layout gets muddled a little, but since you can drag the widgets around, it is not a problem. The extra screen space makes it a pleasure to use. I have a bluetooth obd key, it works well.

Re: Android Wireless Tether??

I remember having difficulty with that. When you select the bluetooth phone id, I think the Archos tries to find out available protocols. Right now, my phone is not connected, bluetooth is off, the bluetooth phone id option is greyed out saying phone not paired, but the tether protocol is available,...

Re: Android Wireless Tether??

For a bit less pain and a whole lot better battery life on both devices, I would highly recommend using bluetooth tether on the Wireless Tether app, rather than Wifi. This way, your phone doesn't even get hot from the battery drain, and your only pain will be to initially set up the bluetooth tether...

Re: Music Apps

Is there a music app that can browse the files on an sd card and play off the sd card without needing to work off the library? Other than AMC. I know you can tap an mp3 in a file manager, but that only plays one song at a time, I would like to play a folder at a time.

Re: is there a mobile view version of these forums.

Hi TobyK, Are you saying that TapaTalk allow ArchosFans.com Support Forum to display differently w/o an installed mod to the phpBB server? Allen No, what I am saying is that by installing the free plugin/mod on your phpbb forum, you automatically score yourself an android/iphone/blackberry app for ...

Re: is there a mobile view version of these forums.

Please try the tapatalk app on your Archos. You will see that it has a great interface and makes the forums much easier to browse. It does not affect normal web access at all, it simply provides an interface that the app can use. It also lists all compatible forums in the app itself, like a market f...

Re: is there a mobile view version of these forums.

TapaTalk integrates with most popular forums, including phpBB3. Just install the plugin and you are good to go. Check www.tapatalk.com. I believe the xda forum app is a white labelled version of this app, but I could be wrong.

If the forum is upgraded to phpBB3, then I believe we would be able to use TapaTalk forum app for Android.

Re: Optimum Video Conversion Settings

If file size is important to you (or at least a concern): - Not that I've tried this on the Archos (did on my Nokia N800), but you could probably half that resolution without loosing much perceivable quality. At arms-length distance, you probably won't tell the difference, and you can use much lower...

Re: battery discharges to fast.

I did some more digging into the microSD-card-draining-battery phenomenon, and it turns out that what was draining the battery wasn't the SD card, but rather the fact that I used Apps2SD on it. Some of the apps kept reading data constantly, hence keeping the SD card on, hence draining the power.

Re: battery discharges to fast.

Something I found out recently was that not all microSD cards are made equally. I bought a 4Gb card and stuck it in my phone (not Archos), and the battery drained almost completely overnight. Put the original 1Gb back in, and battery is fine again. This might affect some of you, so try playing the v...

Re: A2dp solves tons of issues in one fell swoop

While I agree that sound quality does not equal bass boost (nor sound volume) alone, I would have to say that this particular Nokia headset gives me better sound quality overall (but not by much) than my wired Sennheisser earbuds connected directly. It does lack a bit of treble tho and there is no a...

Re: Would you pay to get an official 2.2 update for your A5I

I would pay, up to 30 euros. While previously I couldn't see much benefit in upgrading to 2.2, now there are just too many apps I want that don't work on 1.6, for example Skype and Flash.

A2dp solves tons of issues in one fell swoop

Just a heads-up. I got myself a Nokia BH-505 bluetooth stereo headset today, and I've realised how amazing audio-over-bluetooth can be: - No more tangled wires. You can gym with Archos in your pocket or in your gym bag near you. - Volume issue solved! Set Archos to max volume after pairing and conne...

Re: A5it vs n810

I also have an N800, iPod Touch, and Archos 5IT. Summary: - iPod touch is my least used device. I'm selling it. Screen is too small and low res, and any app I want I can get on my Android phone anyway. iPod Touch 4th gen looks good though. However, everytime I pick up the iPod, I marvel at how smoot...
