Re: Samsung galaxy player S wifi 5.0

Hey, Marcel - something I've noticed is that the size of everything on screen is much larger on the SGP vs. the Archos. I switched to a different launcher so that I can resize the icons, but have you found a way to change the screen/ pixel density so that everything is smaller (widgets, url bar, etc...

Re: A5IT vs. SGP 5

the samsung player came out at least 2 years after the 5IT.. so i would hope its better I agree that it's not really a fair comparison, but there's really nothing else out there in a 5" android tablet! It's a shame Archos has never updated their 5" tablet. The world seems to be crazy for a 7-10" sl...

Re: A5IT vs. SGP 5

So, after a week of getting used to the Galaxy Player, I thought I'd update. First, I'm loving the capacitive screen! It's so great not to have to use my fingernail anymore, and pinch & zoom is wonderful! Second, the wifi performance is stellar - it connects almost immediately after returning from s...

A5IT vs. SGP 5

I've been using my A5IT daily for 2 years now. That is, up until two days ago, when I got a Samsung Galaxy Player 5. All I can say is, WOW! This Sammy device is amazing. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways: Gingerbread - and it runs fast and smooth! Tried the OpenAOS Gingerbread on the A5IT - ...

Re: After two years, I retired my A5IT :( but bought a Samsu

I too will soon be replacing my Archos 5 with a Samsung Galaxy Player. The reviews on the Sammy are overwhelmingly positive - it seems to be a great device. I gotta say, though, that my A5 has been a trusty friend after two years of daily use. It's proven to be very durable and long lasting. Sure, i...

Re: Need advice with new Archos purchase... my old one died

That's a good question. I, like you, use my 5IT every day, and I'm not sure what to do if (when) it dies. The problem is, NO ONE makes a 5" Android tablet besides Archos. I was very excited when Samsung announced this back in May: Samsung Galaxy S WIFI 5.0 but I'm still waiting for it to go on sale ...

Swype Beta V3 FC problems

So, I got an email from Swype, saying that the new V3 is out, and my current version is about to expire. I download and install, and it FC's every time I try to open the keyboard! I uninstalled and re-installed several times, to no avail. No problem, I thought - I have the older apk backed up,...

Re: Android 2.0 - Google Certification

I'm not sure what Charlie Brown is trying to say above, but I find it funny that the board was discussing Android 2.0 back in Dec. 2009... and here we are, a year and a half later, with nada from them! I'm thankful to OpenAOS and other developers for doing what Archos never had any intention of doin...

Re: Is there a Trick to make FM Xmitter work?

Here's the problem I have with the FM transmitter - the audio output is of such low quality, it's not even worth trying. I bought the Archos car charger with high hopes, but was totally let down. The sound output definitely mono, and it sounds like there's no high frequencies above 2K. I'm not an au...

Re: Best keyboard/input method

Hi, this was a problem I used to encounter. The secret is, voice search app from Google must be installed. Many apps use google voice search engine for voice recognition. Internet will be used for sending the sample to google and pulling the result back. Accuracy is impressive. Whoa! How did you ge...

File Expert - cool!

I've discovered a new file manager called "File Expert" (free in Google Market) that does everything that Astro does (with a slightly more intuitive interface, in my opinion), plus a really cool feature: a web server! Click on the "Share" button on the bottom of the screen, and it brings up the opti...

Re: Angry Birds Rio - won' t install

OK, I figured it out - I un-installed the original Angry Birds, then Rio installed OK. Not sure why I can't have both installed at the same time... there appears to be plenty of room for both (Appmonster shows 48MB/138MB memory available with Rio installed).

Angry Birds Rio - won' t install

Anybody installed Angry Birds Rio on their 5? I 'm trying to take advantage of the Amazon App Store's free offer (today only), but it keeps saying I have insufficient space to install the app. I've un-installed a ton of apps, and freed close to 40 MB, but still no go. Has anyone had success?

Re: PlayOn for Android... FAIL!

I see now... I can access Playon thru uPnP. Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, it requires the HD cinema plugin, which I've never had a use for until now. Before I spend $40, can I ask how well it works for those who use this?

PlayOn for Android... FAIL!

I've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the PlayOn Android app, which has been promised forever. It finally arrives... and requires 2.2. Grrrr! For those not familiar with PlayOn, it's software that transcodes internet video (Hulu, ESPN3, etc.) for realtime playback on various devices on a home ...

Re: YouVersion Bible offers free Offline NIV!

My favorite translation is ESV - my pastor preaches from it. I also downloaded the free audio-bible from faithcomesbyhearing.com (parent of bible.is), and put it on my A5 - all 2.2 gigs worth! Provides me with an offline audio-bible too! Great for in the car. That is strange about 3:16 in the NIV - ...

YouVersion Bible offers free Offline NIV!

Hi, all! I really love the YouVersion Bible app, put out by lifechurch.tv. It has over 18 English Bible translations available for download *for free*, including the NIV, which is available until the end of the month. Plus tons of other languages... Bible apps with downloadable offline bibles are ke...

Awesome! Perfect replacement for my 5it when it goes belly up. Camera and 2.2 - nice! Looks a little thicker than the Archos, though... although maybe it's just the white back.
