Re: Toshiba Thrive looks good

Yes, it is tempting. All these Android tabs have pluses and minuses. The Toshiba is heavier, which I don't like. But it isn't restricted to the proprietary ports (like the Samsung 10.1 and the Ipad 2). Trade-offs.

Re: Archos and DVR snap-on

I'll try to answer, even though I don't have the snap-on (I have the bigger one, the DVR dock). You put the red/white/yellow cables into the TV to watch what you have already recorded. To make a recording, you have to connect the cables to a video source. That might be a TV, if it has video-out. Usu...

Wait, now there's an Arnova 8 and 84

When did the Arnova 8 4 appear? The specs look so similar to the Arnova 8. From the description, is one a "Kindle" tablet and one a general tablet? One for portrait use, one for landscape? So many models, too many choices. Arnova 8 4 http://arnovatech.com/products/arn_84/index.html?country=us&lang=e...

Re: Have you tried running SDE / Angstrom linux?

[quote="rushter" I just can't get it back into the original ARCHOS mode. I have searched and searched to no avail - am I missing something? The only options I see are installing Linux on my PC and downgrading and blah blah blah. Any ideas? Just get me back to an ARCHOS boot up with the big ARCHOS bu...

Re: ipad 2 is here

I am an old man ,I need a product that works as advertised right out of the box.Reading this forum with all the "this is what you have to do" "upgrade this" "reinstall that " and all the other baggage as scared me from buying the Archos tablet. Even Archos lack of 3g onboard is a big minus for me,y...

Re: Bought my wife an iPad - here are my thoughts

I fully agree with the original review. The good and the bad. The parallel: my GF bought an ipad2, and it is really, really nice. High quality, fast , great apps. Skype works great But I feel guilty using it. No tinkering. No hacking (Well, haven't done a jailbreak it). No command line no file brows...

Re: Eee Pad Transformer

$700, but the UK price is always higher than US, so maybe around $600-625? The dock was supposed to be about $100, "should" put the tablet around $500-525. At $500, I'll pass on this. If it ever pops up for $399 in North America again, I'm all over it! =D> But I am pretty sure the dock includes add...

Arnova 10 For Sale at "Electronics-Expo"

http://www.electronics-expo.com/make-a-store/item/ACH50171410/Archos/50171410/1.html This is a local electronics store in New Jersey, USA. They had it listed in the newspaper for $199. On their web site, it is $188.09. Their description and technical specs are too brief, luckily, we already know the...

Re: Accessing Archos 5 Files

There are several ways to access the files. My preferred way is to connect a USB cable from my Linux computer. The A5A automounts, I browse the files. From your description, I assume the USB connector still works. Do you have Linux? Do you have a Windows computer? If you only have Windows you need t...

Re: WPA2-Enterprise and Proxy Access

Could I download the apk file of the "wifi advanced config editor" (which I already did; found that on this site http://www.freewarelovers.com/android) and install this application on my Archos 5 without installing google marketplace? Could it cause some kind of a problem? What do you think? Thanks...

Re: iPad, Archos 101, and Samsung Galaxy Tab... questions.

The Archos 101 has and HDMI port. What's on the screen can get sent to the HDMI port. Some, not all, projectors will accept an HDMI connection. The iPad has an external extra cost VGA connector. All projectors that I have used take VGA video. But you have to remember to buy the VGA connector, and Ap...

Re: how to keep the screen on with dvr station connected?

I had the same thought when I got my DVR station. But no, that is why they include the infrared remote with the station. It's a pretty good remote. It's just not a touch screen. After using the remote for a while, I kinda like it.

You could try following instructions on this page: http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates.html?country=us&lang=en&#firm scroll down a ways, where it says this: The process for restoring the legacy ARCHOS firmware is done by accessing the recovery menu. Re: Archos 4.8 IT 500 GO

Well on the other side of the discussion, this actually gives them an excuse to create firmware updates/fixes that are for the 48, but somehow spill over to the A5A due to their hardware similarities.... all conjecture, but very possible and likely. Had they released the 48 with Android 2.x I would...

screen looks smaller too. To me, the screens look exactly the same size. And when I measure the diagonal of the glass portion of my A5A, I get ~ 4.8 inches, not 5.0 inches. The wiki agrees, http://wiki.archosfans.com/index.php?title=Archos_5_Internet_Tablet_with_Android (When I measure only the par...

Re: A5IT and BlackBerry Tethering

Well, yes it is possible. I tether my BBerry and A5Android all the time. But I know the APN to use for Tmobile (wap.voicestream.com). You'll need another Canadian to tell you what the Rogers APN is, I'm not familiar with that.
