Re: Linux on the Archos 9

The hardware mousebuttons nor the mouse at the right work right now.

The touchpad drivers need to be installed manually from eeti.

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

I have everything working nicely on ubuntu 10.10 even Xv except unity-3d. I replaced it with unity-2d.

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

I'm running ubuntu 10.04 Remix on my Archos 9. Works pretty well. I'm planning to install 10.10 shortly, and probably going to make an ISO of that 10.10 once it is stable enough. Or do you guys want the 'older 10.04' ?

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

Well, I'm amazed each time I install ubuntu on some of our machines, even to the point that it is no real fun anymore (INSTALL + install ubuntu propriety drivers = DONE). Have you ever lately installed Windows XP on a pretty recent machine without the manufacturer slipstreamed installer CD? It's dam...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

Please note that you are hitting a crappy driver, one that is not supported by Intel. You cannot expect to categorize the whole Linux world because of 1 crappy partly-closed source unsupported driver ?

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

You are probably suffering from the bug on Compiz (or any other compositing manager). This is something on our todo list to fix, it's not an easy one though... Please be aware that we are doing this on our spare time. If there would be some funding from Intel's side, things would go a lot faster... ...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

Yes. The two devices share the same PS2 port and seemingly it switches from one to the other using a custom PS2 command.

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

VAAPI works fine using the latest drivers. You can make the optical mouse work, just use a regular mouse driver instead of the eGalax. I have some personal stuff that will occupy most of my time right now. The full xorg driver will be ready in about a month or so (I'm spending my spare time on my ne...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

Yeah I know, something I will work on. I also have some patches agains CellWriter so it acts like a panel, it will make the main window smaller so it doesn't overlap anything. And currently I'm working on my own email client which is much more finger-friendly and doesn't take much space, but a bit b...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

Voodoo: don't bother. It is not supported by the eGalax driver inside xorg. They send an instruction when they switch from touchpad to mouse mode and then the 'regular' driver should start working (in windows at least). On Linux, nothing handles that operation and is sometimes mistakenly interpreted...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

One nice thing to have is the VA accelerated mplayer and run mplayer -vo vaapi -va vaapi yourmovie.mkv Nice fullscreen hardware-accelerated video in your handpalm! I also added this line to /etc/mplayer/input.conf: MOUSE_BTN0_DBL vo_fullscreen It enables you to go fullscreen by double-tapping the vi...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

A couple of days ago we merged my changes into the 'main' repository, no need for the 'fix' repository anymore... That was probably why you had troubles.. I'll see if I can install a fresh ubuntu and publish an image of it. It might take more than a week to do that since I'm hacking to get Xv workin...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

Sorry I never tried 9.10, i went from 8.04 right to 10.04. I like to go forward, not backwards. :-) The problem is xorg version 1.7, some EXA stuff has changed and because of that the EXA-based driver didn't compile, nor does it work if you fix the compile issues. The driver uses exa_classic and I'v...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

Krut, You need the ppa/fix to make openGL working. There is a patched xorg 1.7.6 in the PPA that makes the driver work. A 'better' driver is in the works that won't need a patched xorg. I have vaapi working nicely here. I'm not at the machine currently but i get near 300 to 500 fps if i can remember...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

Hi, I played with mplayer patched for vaapi support and I'm quite disappointed ... When using vaapi support, the acceleration is obvous but the decoding quality is really bad (blocks and tearing). Even an old Xvid (704*400) which runs well on Win7 (CPU only decoding) is unwatchable with my fedora. ...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

I submitted a patch to the XOrg developers: there is a bug in Xorg that prohibited our driver to work on version 1.7.6. With the patch I have now working OpenGL on Lucid Lynx. Now I can finally start testing VA support for Poulsbo. For Lucid people who know how to recompile a package, the patch is o...

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

Cellwriter is a good keyboard. You can make a global shortcut key to it to run it this way: /usr/bin/cellwriter --show-window --window-struts --dock-window=2 I'll post a patch shortly that fixes an issues with --window-struts and also adds a command --toggle-window (shows window when hidden, hides w...

This might be of use for some people who like reading pdfs using evince. It adds a button to the toolbar that makes the pointer drag the document instead of making selections.

Re: Linux on the Archos 9

I havent touched va yet since it needs the texturing thing that is incompatible with the ShadowFB option we currently need to keep it running stable. That is one of the next things on the agenda... By the way there should be GStreamer modules available now that enables any gstreamer app use VA (like...
