Need an Archos 5 for parts?

My Archos has issues. The screen works fine, hard drive is fine, case is worn & ugly. Internal battery has reduced life. Have a good USB cable and the external battery attachment. The connector on the motherboard where the cable attaches broke and I did a crappy repair. It will charge but has no USB...

Re: Tech Support and Repair Inadequacy

Last fall I broke my screen and snet my A5 in for repair. Stupid move on my part. Not only did I pay them $140 plus shipping, insurance, etc only to see the A5/250GB selling new at amazon for $200; but I paid them to give me a matte screen. They also refuse to ship it back to my military address so ...

Re: My RMA finally shipped last night!

I am sending mine for replacement tomorrow. Question: The new replacement will arrive at the beginning of a one year warranty correct? Meaning it is new and will be covered by a new warranty. Is this correct?

Re: TUT: GUY FAWKES HACK WITH NO DVR STATION -HOW TO!

Is STEP 2 down grading the firmware to make it GFH compatible? step 2 actually isnt downgrading your firmware its patching it so you can run any rootfs.cramfs.secure (with out the patched firmware they archos will just sit at the archos screen while booting because it is trying to run an unsigned r...

Re: Can anyone help with How to downgrade the Archos 5 firmware?

I have tried using Ubuntu a few times in the past but gave up. Until now the incentive & motivation to learn it was pretty low. Now I have a reason though so I'll just have to plod on through. They wiped my A5 clean when it went out for repair. I started rebuilding it and now it freezes and reboots ...

Re: Can anyone help with How to downgrade the Archos 5 firmware?

That is great and should help a lot. However I might not have stressed strongly enough how utterly clueless I am working at this level. After much searching, which ironically took me right back to the g3nius site, I found aos-tools. Now what do I do with it? I don't know how to get to libaos in term...

Can anyone help with How to downgrade the Archos 5 firmware?

I have tried to make some kind of sense out of the archos.g3nius how-to here: http://archos.g3nius.org/index.php?title=How_to_downgrade_the_Archos_5_firmware Since this is my first foray into Ubuntu, I'm now completely lost. I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed and am working with a 250GB A5. I get to the p...

Guess I also need a noob's guide for this one too. Made in to the point where I could calculate the partition size then was lost once it started talking about unpacking the new firmware.

Re: 'at midnight, and by torchlight' i present: guy fawkes hack

Got my A5 back from repair today :( As expected they wiped the hard drive and upgraded the firmware needlessly.

Anyone willing to estimate when this might be workable with 1.7.02?

Re: Gen 5 Davinci UART0 Pinout ?

I have used the process many times to find defects in electronics. A dental x-ray would give enough resolution to follow traces on the board.

Re: Gen 5 Davinci UART0 Pinout ?

Does anyone here work in medical or dental areas? If I had a 605 I'd take some x-ray images for you at work. Surely 6 or 8 close in x-ray exposures from various angles would help see more PCB details.

OK dude. That has answered the question I asked about 2%. Oh, by the way, I'm hung like a horse and am worth billions but choose not to allow myself to be seen in the buff and only pretend to be middle class because it would be wrong for me to share such information publicly. :D See I can do that too.

Re: Entertainment OUR Way

From what I understand, using the Archos bootloader will always require using signed images. This means either divining the Archos private key, or replacing it with our own. No, you can just disable the checks and there you go. The Archos bootloader loads a linux kernel just like uboot would. If yo...

Re: so what do we do with the 2.1.04 software?

I have never added new firmware to mine. Unfortunately I recently sent it back for a new screen so it will probably come back locked into the new stuff :(
