Contemplating selling my Archos 5

Before I go to the marketplace section for this, I just sort of want feedback on this I no longer have use for my Archos 5 120gb (non android) CONDITION: Not the greatest, most importantly, the touchscreen seems to have a problem with it, though it does FUNCTION, its got a...dent so to speak, around...

Re: No way to display Asian characters on the Archos 5?

I'd really want to use the SDE firmware more often, its just that there are things about it that don't quite work with how I use it from day to day. like, is there some way to lock the screen so it won't turn on when you poke it (and of course be unlockable), like it is in AVOS?

Re: Got VLC up and running under SDE. REALLY slow, though.

Upon using the command "opkg install vlc" it started to download and install the necessary packages, but it gets to samba and starts to really slow down and the unit heats up quite a bit, am I doing something wrong? EDIT: Never mind, I just let it sit at the snag for 10 minutes and it got done right...

No way to display Asian characters on the Archos 5?

is there really NO way to get it to display asian characters correctly?

The people at Archos probably won't do it because its not really in demand, but is there some sort of way I or someone here would be able to make it do that?

Re: Mounting the other .cramfs.secure files

Aside from pure curiosity, I was kinda looking to see what was in the bitmapfs file, and as I guessed, its the graphics for the UI in AVOS (or whatever you wanna call it), but in .dat form which I can not read so, thats a dead end I guess, all in all it was just because I wanted to see.

Mounting the other .cramfs.secure files

I read HERE that you can mount rootfs.cramfs.secure as if it were a drive, I've done this successfully, my question is: would I be able to do the same with optfs and bitmapfs?

If so, how would I go about it?

Re: oh look shiny! (gen6 boot menu)

No, since the bootlogo area of flash is locked in the init kernel using the SDE. What you would have to do is create a .aos update file for the bootlogo that you want to use, boot into recovery, copy over the .aos file and flash it. Can I use the DTI games exploit still though? (of course i know I'...

Re: oh look shiny! (gen6 boot menu)

Thank you for the simple .aos for dual boot, I was just being too lazy to do the instructions manually 2 questions: Its of course made a new boot logo, I'm not too fond of it so I wish to flash my own again, with this whole dual-boot business, would flashing my own boot logo mess with any of the stu...

Re: Help On changing boot logo

To downgrade to firmware 1.6.54 (if you dont already have that version on your device, check in "firmware and plugins" in the settings menu): http://archos.g3nius.org/index.php?title=How_to_downgrade_the_Archos_5_firmware (NOTE: you must have linux installed to do this! I recommend Ubuntu http://www...

Re: Help On changing boot logo

You don't do it from your computer, you need the binary that allows you to flash things, the correct address to flash to, whatever you are gonna flash, and root access The simplist method is if you have gotten your Archos 5 to run under the patched firmware, all you'd need to do is unpack a later ve...

Re: Inside an Archos 5 120/250GB

...note the two wifi antennas on each side of the battery...the Archos manual suggests there is only one antenna on the left side...unfortunately they are both positioned where you naturally hold the A5 (this is also ware the Noreve case grips the A5 too)... Are you sure one of them isn't the radio...

Using mouldy cheeze's .secure on patched firmware 1.7.02

I switched over to the patched firmware 1.6.54 and upgraded to 1.7.02 recently, then on a whim decided to go put the rootfs.cramfs.secure from Archilles guy fwkes hack into the hidden partition to unlock all the plugins (though I had already bought all of them a while back) and upon restarting it, m...

Accessing the Filesystem in Opera on Archos 5

I found out typing (lets just go to pictures for this) /mnt/data/pictures in the URL bar in Opera on my Archos 5 unit will have opera open up a directory of that folder, files and folders, and yay! it will open up files if you press them, including animated .gif files so maybe go do that and make a ...

Re: Can anyone help with How to downgrade the Archos 5 firmware?

Well I think I have liberated my Archos, I rolled back the firmware and it now boots with the new boot loader but I dont see any extra plugins or anything different except the new boot screen. einstain's patched bootloader doesnt do that, archilles rootfs.cramfs.secure does that, the patched bootlo...

Re: Can anyone help with How to downgrade the Archos 5 firmware?

Well, When you download aos-tools I now notice there is a flash file. I don't quite remember what I did to it - so if someone else could help that would be great. I imagine that's the program used to flash files to certain memory locations on the archos. EDIT: im not sure i was reading that quite r...

Re: I bet you'd like to have more volume...

Tried this, it seems to of worked, i definitely hear a difference, but i hear no increase in volume limit, more like it cranked up the bass to where my headphones can't take it, or something to that effect (as in, i had a relatively bass-y song, that normally didn't sound weird on my headphones, i a...

Re: 'at midnight, and by torchlight' i present: guy fawkes hack

I guess I was sucessful on the patched bootloader (my splash screen is different now), now to try some of the stuff I been wontin' to. EDIT: YESS, I have FINALLY gotten this Archos "liberated", 'twas as simple as copying the jailbroken rootfs.cramfs.secure over to the hidden partition. tha...
