alot of them already have interesting touch screen control work-arounds, see: iphone doom
iPhone has multitouch
Archos does not

So the controls won't work anyway

Re: Archos 5 or 7?

I hate it, the device firmware is bad -- sure the features work, but the layout of the menus is not intuitive, not quick, and not customizable. Example: to open playlists on the device takes something like 10 taps on the screen, on my iPhone I can get there in 3. The internet browser is unreliable a...

To be fair, they probably don't know. Support people are not the same as the development people.

Re: SDE and new applications

Sounds like you want the new "iPad". How do "open" and "Apple" go together? They don't. It was based on this: I bought it to have a portable media player and to read books. The web is an added bonus for me. But now that I have it I would like to see it do more. This is exactly what the iPad does......

Re: Jailbreak completed....now what??

what about the little archos games :?: and what about getting another os on it like rockbox? could that be possible? Rockbox is possible, but I don't know how desirable it is for the archos devices. It doesn't have any type of internet support as far as I know (so no internet browser). Anyway, yes,...

Re: SDE and new applications

Why not simply open up the existing Archos os? The Archos 7 that I have is an outstanding piece of kit but it could do so much more. If it it was opened up to the community of developers Archos would surely gain more interest in their products. I understand their decision to market it as a simple m...

Well obviously everyone here will say "ARCHOS ARCHOS GO NAO!!!"... The iPod is much more stable though. I'd still choose the Archos, just know that it'll freeze and reboot every now and then. Ehh, not everyone. I regret getting my Archos 5 and if I could do it over again, I'd go with an iPod classi...

Why won't EXT3 work on Windows? Windows has no problem reading networked drives in EXT3 format.

In MediaMonkey make sure you use "auto-sync" and that you check the "Copy playlists" option in the device settings. It works fine for me and my A5.

Thanks for the link; Maybe a stupid question on my part; but its indicating 1.6.54; not .53; 1.6.54 was also a firmware release with the Archos disclaimer of Caution not down gradeable if installed; I also made the misfortune of using .54 and my HD went south after I installed it. I guess my bottom...

Re: Archos 5 for $170. A Good deal? Worth getting?

If someone can come up with a decent new OS for it with all the new developements regarding the new developer firmware, then I'd say it's worth it. But right now, nothing great and easy has been developed, so I'd say no for now.
