Re: Can Android 2.2 Froyo see ad hoc networks, connect to ip

People mix Wifi hotspot into this thread while it really is about the ability to accomplish an ad-hoc Wifi connection from one phone to another, or alternatively, to detect a device that sends its SSID and offers an ad-hoc network connection, and then be able to connect to it. It seems for some unkn...

Re: HOWTO: ADB support on Ubuntu Linux (on-device debugging!)

I still think it's important that Archos respond regarding the lost support for ADB on Linux. What happened and why did you decide to abandon those who were developing Android apps for the Archos Internet Tablet using Ubuntu ?? Apparently when you fixed that "incorrect vendor ID" something changed t...

Re: HOWTO: ADB support on Ubuntu Linux (on-device debugging!)

I wonder if the timing of the update which seems to have cut this off is in any way related to the recent recipes for copying Google's apps and marketplace to the Archos 5. Jim M. I would rather guess the majority of Archos dev team actually develop on Vista (or XP Pro ?) and assume this is what th...

Re: HOWTO: ADB support on Ubuntu Linux (on-device debugging!)

Some trivia: It seems Archos have not yet configured ADB the way they should (as seen by the unchanged default strings above). The 18d1 value is identical to an ID that shows up in the HTC EXCA300 ("Google Sooner") device, an Android prototype unit provided for universities and companies, see for e...

Re: HOWTO: ADB support on Ubuntu Linux (on-device debugging!)

I don't know what's up there. I updated to latest firmware 1.3.07 some minutes ago,
and I still see the same old id as before:
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 18d1:0002
and "adb devices" say:
0123456789ABCDEF device

Re: Android 2.0 & Archos - Will it bring Android Market?

Camera is used by less than 1% of the more than 10 thousand Android apps in the Marketplace. It makes absolutely no sense to require it to be built-in. Google Android is all about making cheaper pocketable computer products to access the Internet. Archos is the best and the cheapest Android product...

Re: archos android can make phone calls

SIP is ok as long as there's connectivity. Cellular phones still have their strong point in working where no SIP client will ever work. SIPdroid is impressive from a development point of view. I wish I could spend time really understand and mastering its complete software stack. I would like to borr...

Re: So owners, hows the A5A?

I'm going to College shortly to learn how to be a Chef, and I am going to be getting a PMP. The A5A looks like an excellent choice, however it has received bad reviews. Luckily, being as tech savvy as I am (lol) I know it's always best to check with the owners themselves, so, tell me, is it worth t...

I'll take a look when I get to the place where I left my USB cable; upgrade won't work without external power :|

Re: woot!.. Just ordered the 500gb version..

You need to attach the USB cable while the device is still operatiing, then turn it off via the button. The power drawn from USB will then be used fully for charging and not most of it for powering the device. If you have the unit turned off and plug in USB at that point, then the unit will boot up ...

Re: List of Bluetooth tethering phones that work

From experience most Sony Ericsson 3G phones I can think of supports use as a dial up modem over Bluetooth. With Bluetooh you will always be limited to the 380kbit/s or so download speed that link offers (what you get with regular 3G) even though a specific phone model might support both HSDPA and H...

HOWTO: ADB support on Ubuntu Linux (on-device debugging!)

I'm happy to see the latest Archos 5 Internet Tablet firmware update ( 1.1.01 ) enables ADB (Android Debug Bridge). This is a major step forward in efficient development of apps for this tablet device. Here's how to enable use of Android Debug Bridge on Ubuntu (Linux) with this Archos product once y...

Re: Any one got VOIP over WIFI

I'm busy working on such an app for Android in general, it's primarily intended to do mic data stream transfer over cellular 3G to a central server, then broadcast to other connected units listening on the same "channel". It's part of the in-traffic app "DroidLane", the so called "DroidLane CB" feat...

Re: A2DP Bluetooth keeps cutting out

Check if you have Wifi turned on. This has been reported an issue with some Android phones where people claim turning Wifi off have a positive effect on skips. In fact your post reminded me now I need to test my 32GB A5A tonight with the A2DP car stereo. I tried this with a HTC Hero a while ago and ...

Re: Instability, GPS & Microphone issues, etc.

Regarding FM Tuner reception (Music->FM Radio) I found if inserting the headset plug only partially, so that the internal speaker is still audible, then reception (FM Tuner sensitivity) is excellent. As soon as I insert the plug fully and the internal speaker cuts out (earphones instead working), th...

Re: Amazon took down 160gb

I do online retail and know you need to watch carefully what to offer online (quality assessment) before you decide to ship. Often consumer's rights to return products are very strong and governed under law, while a reseller may have much weaker deals with the distributor thus returns damage overall...

Re: my experience between A5 60Gb and now my A5 160GB Android

If Archos used me for their marketing, they would be able to sell 10 times more products, which would enable them to hire many more developers which would provide users with better firmwares and more features faster. They already do this  Once you get you hands on your A5A the experience could...

Yes Charbax, why don't you buy an A5 Andoid yourself and then give us some real feedback? Why haven't you bought one yet? Hopefully I'll get one next week and start posting real feedback. I don't know anything, but my guess is there will be a newer firmware update available before I receive it, I w...
