Re: Ok Where is the 5" model in the presentation??

Good points here. I have little interest in this size but think of how fun it would be to explain to customers why there is no Google Market or Honeycomb on the small tablet. When Ice Cream Sandwich is released it may make more sense. Archos also has their sales numbers from Gen 8. I don't, but I re...

Re: Why my next tablet won't be Archos Gen 9

I had the power connector break on my A101 which is ironic as I was getting tired of it. I had to reload the A70 and the A101 because it constantly said it was out of memory. After reloading they both worked fine, then the A101 started acting up again and when it does this it becomes quite slow. I d...

Re: Flash 10.3 on market - smooth, uh, not really.

Sorry to have to put a damper on this enthusiasm, but I just finished testing it on my A70SIT, firmware 2.3.26, and strictly on YouTube, I could so no significant difference from 10.2-157.51. I watched the same test clip (Kate's dress, from the Royal Wedding series available in HD) and it runs acce...

Re: Archos 43 or gen 9 5inch

sequitur you say: I suspect they went to a 4.3 inch screen in gen 8 for a readily accessible screen. Given the number of phones coming out with that size I'd think it would make more sense if they offer that size to go to a 5 inch screen. For a portable device I'd argue that a 7 inch screen is a lo...

Flash 10.3 on market - smooth

I saw the release and some news posts mentioned hardware optimization and mentioned OMAP4. Then I remembered gen 8 is still the 3x series. I'm not positive about the optimization on Archos but the new Flash is really smooth and responsive. I doubt it could get much better.

Re: Help - Lost Apps / Backup

If you installed your apps with Google market you can go to the market web site and it should show what you had installed and let you reinstall. At least for me having 3 devices on my account I can do that. If you reset apps or data you are clearing the partition. It should tell you that you will lo...

Re: Will Archos follow Google 18 month Android upgrade progr

I just got an update on my gen 7 tablet, the first Android tablet AFAIK, the other day. I bought it the end of last year. Of course it wasn't an upgrade to a newer version. Still compared to my experience with Samsung Archos has been stellar. As a developer and a businessman I can appreciate that Ar...

Re: Archos 43 or gen 9 5inch

As far as I know Gen 9 is to be announced in June, but probably as in past years it will be months before it ships. Frankly as many times as I have thought I'd get something else and then bought an Archos I'm very anxious to see the gen 9 announcement. I'd expect a variety of tablets, but does anyon...

Re: Barcode Scanner

It's not magic. Your barcode scanner needs to say what types of codes it will scan. The main Google developed one I believe supports a large variety. Others support only QR codes. Beyond that it will also be a matter of which Archos you have. If you only have a front facing camera you need to set th...

Re: ram memory missing

This is what you need to keep in mind... It's always nice to have free memory, but there isn't a thing you can do with it. Android uses memory different that desktop systems as it can tell an application to close when it needs space. The problem is when it's doing that and then you switch back and i...

Re: Generation 9 10.1" vs. Galaxy Tab 10.1"

After gen 7 being okay but not great I was seduced by the Samsung Galaxy Tab... Then I saw the price, then the new gen 8 came out and I got an A70 and A101 for less than a Galaxy Tab. The new Tab 10.1 is due to hit the states in June starting at $500 and it is incredibly sexy. Every year Archos suck...

Re: Action Item!! Petition to Increase Apps Partition

Imagine the ram usage implication of being able to install and run 3-4 times the current number of apps !! Exactly zero! While I wish the Archos had more RAM it is not for the misguided reasons of those who don't understand Android. Having 10 apps, 100 or 1000 makes no difference to memory manageme...

Re: What should Archos do for Gen9/Gen10, write suggestions

I have been buying Archos since gen 5 and have an A70 and A101. I'm using the A101 now. They are both okay devices that I chose over what was available. Recently I saw the video a day in the life of the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 and just like the first Tab I wanted it. Once it's priced I will probably fee...

Archos always updates their core software as well as their hardware, and to anyone thinking of buying anyone else all you have to do is follow the legion of disappointment as devices with great specs turn out to be one kind of disappointment after another. Let me count the ways... hosed UIs, general...

Google releases Fragments API for pre Honeycomb devices

http://phandroid.com/2011/03/04/fragments-api-extended-to-pre-honeycomb-platforms/ http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/Fragment.html Perhaps one of the coolest features of Honeycomb is the Fragment API. Okay, the 3D scripting is pretty cool. Fragments allow for real dialog windows as...

Amazon MP3 latest fix addresses Archos downloads

I just checked what was new on the market and read the changes for Amazon MP3. I specifically mentions Archos in the fix for allowing devices without carriers to buy music. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it should finally work on Archos.

Re: Archos should make a premium honeycomb tablet for $500+

Archos has been on a tear believe it or not. Not long ago some were speculating as to their future but they saw huge profits the end of last year with Gen 8. Given how little time it was out to jump from the 50M Euro income to upper 80M range is huge. The assumption about them not being able to keep...

Re: Will Archos choose new chips for Gen 9 this year

The TI OMAP 4430 is one option, but the OMAP 4440 is much more powerful. Yeah, haha, they've been trying that trick for a while now (it works). I will agree my Nokia 770 with an OMAP 1710 was underpowered, but the 2420 in the N800 went for five good years of service, and I have few complaints about...

Re: Will Archos choose new chips for Gen 9 this year

To everyone concerned about gen 9... buy a Zune! With gen 7 Adobe promised Flash, then moved the goal posts and had Google tweak Froyo to handle it. Now they've improved it, but you need Honeycomb. At least we think, as the Xoom is launching without it. I'm sure most people on this forum rightly bla...
