the hard drive has likely crashed and needs to be replaced.
you can send it to archos and they will charge you about as much as a new archos would cost to fix it. or you can replace the drive yourself, you'll see several posts on the front page about it.

you need to rename the file to the same file name the unpatched firmware uses, the archos only recognizes one file name, "firmware_archos5-7.aos"

is your archos running android?

if not then reinstall the software that came with the gps cradle and all should be well

in some rare cases people have reported needing to charge in excess of 4-8 hours before getting their archos back to life from something similar... so the charging it is a great idea, if a couple hours doesn't work, don't lose hope, keep going and see if it comes on after 4 and 8 hours

of course this all depends greatly on them being able to install a hacked boot loader... otherwise I think junior is the only who has force-ably replaced a drive without hacking it first, I think archos will prolly charge in the neighborhood of $150 to replace the drive... prolly better to just get ...

there are no installable apps for this version of the archos. those would be for the android version if that is the case. and if you have a droid version, this isn't the forum for it, and you'll likely need a windows machine, or use wine to install stuff for it
