archilles wishes you all a happy 5-11-2010

happy fifth of november! just wanted to say that i have been watching still. i am pleased that archos has continued to support their customers and not abandon them. i am pleased with their efforts to support open development. also well done to openaos. we may have different ideological views, but i ...

Re: An ultimatum for archos

that's 2 down and 1 to go. well done on making the right choice archos. even if it was for the wrong reasons.

but there is still gen 5. i'll wait patiently for a month or two. that is more than enough time to do it. but if you fail in this, i'll be back.

Re: NEW DEVELOPER FIRMWARE (Thank you Archos!)

don't fool yourself. this was not out of the goodness of their hearts. i'd like to think that this was to do the right thing, but i doubt it. i imagine it was to keep me from posting a full jailbreak. though rumor on other forums say it was for tax breaks. maybe a little of both. but i'm still waiti...

Re: An ultimatum for archos

i may have not been around much but don't think you have gotten rid of me archos. releasing the sde for gen 6 was a first step. but you have newer devices and old customers you have abandoned. an sde for gen 7 as well as one for gen 5 is expected . you probably didn't like moldy cheese, but that's t...

well done to the team at archos.g3nius.org on my part as well. really glad to see people rise up and take the challenge of opening these devices. as for donating to me, i don't accept donations. if you feel absolutely obliged, please find a homeless person and buy them a sandwich. or do something el...

Re: Sad A5/7 warranty

i would recommend anybody who installs the developer firmware to make a backup of their flash before doing so. this can be done with brickmaker. instructions have been given on this forum as well.

WOW!! This must be the major announcement Charbax had been talking about. Pretty amazing stuff. Thanks for posting this, and thanks to Archos for finally seeing the light. =D> Wonder if archilles Guy Fawkes hack helped to force their hand... i can guarantee you that it played no small role. but con...

now is the chance. let's get people flooding the archos support facilities with requests for a developer's firmware for the gen4 and gen5 devices as well.

Re: An ultimatum for archos

well done archos. congratulations on beginning to take back some reputation. the release of the developer edition for the archos gen6 is a step in the right direction. true to my word, i will cease to release hacks, for now. but i will keep watching you, and i do have some more hacks at my disposal....

Will hook it up to ubuntu and check if we can access the hidden drives without ripping off archos. Please someone check this out. hey man, thanks for stealing my thunder. it is possible to access the hidden partition while the device is in recovery mode. i tried all the different modes (pc hard dri...

nz, have to say you're not the most reliable source with that badge by your name. maybe you could explain more? what do you mean not accessible? grounded? not brought out to a pin? not brought out from the ic?

Re: Newbie Step by Step to jailbreak A5 Gen6

it seems most people missed the disclaimer saying this was not a hack for newbies! if you tried to install it and didn't get it the first time, re-install the 'official' 1.6.54 firmware and wait. your time will come.

Re: 'at midnight, and by torchlight' i present: guy fawkes hack

my guess is that you did not have the rootfs.cramfs.secure file in /mnt/data when you first ran it. so it hacked the bootloader, but then failed on the copy. now when you try and run it, it's going to fail on the sha1 sum that it does to make sure you are running the correct firmware, so it's never ...

Re: rootfs.cramfs.secure - question to archilles

the answer to the original question: i have disabled the signature check on the file. you can put anything you want in there. i have thought about getting rid of the cramfs root. it would make things a lot more easier. it shouldn't be too difficult to do if you can mess with the cpio, which we can, ...

let me take a moment to explain why i do what i do. putting aside the size of our genitalia for a moment. archos makes great hardware, but words can not begin to describe my contempt for the way they treat their customers. for them, anything goes that will make them a profit. want examples? look at ...

Re: 'at midnight, and by torchlight' i present: guy fawkes hack

Who pointed that out? a colleague of mine that i was discussing the hack with. he made the observation that assuming they don't mount the usb drive noexec, i could accomplish the same thing with a removable ext3 drive without having to take my device apart. so i plugged in a drive and looked at the...
