SDE and battery health...
Folks, I have run into a problem that I figure others may be interested in. I've been running the SDE from it's initial release on my A7. Normally I run my A7 plugged into the AC adapter since power management still is in it's infancy with the SDE. This week I discovered the battery on my A7 had swe...

Re: Programs for ├àngstr├Âm
You were very close. The directory you were looking at was for the PowerPC. Try any of the directories under the following path for packages compatible with the SDE. http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/feeds/2008/ipk/glibc/armv7a/ Better yet, there is a package manager included with the SDE. If you...

Re: Making progress...
The SDE has very little power management enabled at the moment. It will require some fine tuning which is being done by other parties. Until then, I suggest you keep it on the AC charger while playing with it - that is what I do with mine.

Re: Android port to 6th gen Archos 5
Has anyone made any progress into a custom bootloader? I want to test different kernels with the IMT but I want to be cautious not to brick my device. If I could get a bootloader, like GRUB for instance, I could bring up a boot menu to load different kernels and/or OS's. I know that the team over a...

Re: Unable to downgrade from SDE
The naming convention of the AOS file must be exact or else the Archos disk repair will not detect a firmware upgrade. Make sure that the filename is: firmware_archos5-7-1.6.54.aos Or whichever version number your are applying. I don't believe that's true. I have copied the file as named above (inc...

Re: Archos 7 SDE
klick what did you do to get wifi working? what kind of device are you using? i suspect my brand-new-Dec-09 Archos 7 has un-advertised different hardware from older versions, which is why a lot of stuff in the SDE did not behave properly, including wifi. i was able to downgrade to 1.7.11 after re-d...

If using the SDE, as root:
opkg install x11vnc
I believe that will install everything you need.

Re: ├àngstr├Âm on Archos 5, a development diary.
Chebuzz: You are absolutely correct. The OMAP3525 (used in the A5 and A7) does NOT have a SGX core in it. Why Archos chose to be cheap in this way kinda baffles me. $550 USD for my A7 and they chose to be cheap with $15 or $20 price difference (to them) between the CPUs? I've been tempted to find so...

sd8686.bin
sd8xxx.ko

Archos connectors?
Has anyone seen a part or manufacture markings on any of their connectors? I suspect Foxconn supplies their connectors, but I can't find any proof. I would like to buy a couple dozen male and female connectors without resorting to buy real cables and using the connectors. Also, that only gets me mal...

Re: USB Booting
Word of warning to those who wont read through Sebor's patch. His changes are for NON-SDE systems. His init script refers to rootfs.cramfs.secure and not rootfs.img. Those who took the patch on faith would soon be testing the recovery image. :D Of course those who are savvy enough to apply the patch...

Re: What can be done with SDE...
How's the performance? Well, as you can imagine, there is some tuning that could be done. For the most part most apps run very nicely. A few apps, most notably the fennec browser, run like crap - not sure if its a compilation issue or a problem with interacting with hardware (in this case the touch...

Re: USB Booting
I guess what I am asking is if I can boot from a USB drive using the mini-dock? The answer to your question is yes .... and no. The init flash image is used for booting Linux, so the kernel used by your A5/7 comes from this flash partition. Included in that flash image is a gzipped compressed cpio ...

How many people have the wifi working? I'm on an A7 and followed the guide, not working though. The eth0 device appears, the command: iwconfig eth0 essid blah fails, as does any other essid, you can put any there, but it wont' connect to anything. iwlist eth0 scan <- does work, so this to me means ...

Re: What can be done with SDE...
Looking good! You may consider creating a base root.img that people could install if the writeup is _too_ complicated. It could save you some time with the "support" questions. Good idea. I'll have to generate a base rootfs.img with the necessary packages installed and with WIFI enabled. I'll try t...

What can be done with SDE...
Here's a screen shot that I figured folks would find tempting. This is real, taken from within an X session on my A7 running the SDE. Since the SDE is built on OpenEmbedded and Angstrom I simply updated my packages and installed the Enlightenment window manager packages with a couple more support pa...

Re: Build questions - Angstrom/OpenEmbedded/Bitbake
Worse of that, when I unpacked the provided .aos "developer" firmware file and flash images I found that there is no wifi drivers although the dropbear package and wpa_supplicant exist. I kinda curious how developers were supposed to play with the thing. Check out http://archos.g3nius.org/index.php...

Re: QT embedded on Archos 5
How do you know that? I mean that OMAP3530 and OMAP3525, which is inside my A5, are claimed to have accelerated graphics. I understand that chips can have different revisions, but how did you check that there is no AG on yours? I'd like to say I was wrong, and I am, just not in the right way. I was...
