Re: Download Spz0's E17 Illume build (A5IMT) *updated*

This is nice - thanks for your work on it!

I launched Quasar but wasn't able to hear anything - I don't have this problem in the dual-boot provided Angstrom image. All I did to install was the copy the img file over as illume.img and updated menu.lst.

Perhaps creating an FAQ that is stickied for this forum that addresses the purpose, what is not covered, and where to go for other topics? I like the idea of signposts for users so at least they're given some info to work with before asking questions. "Do not enter if ... " or "Only come here for .....

Re: Quasar Media Player -armv7a- Fresh from teh 0venz

I'm not terribly familiar with opkg yet - will we need to uninstall the existing package before installing the new, or will it handle upgrading OK?

Also, are you able to get it to play Ogg files? I can load and play them manually into mplayer but Quasar chokes on them saying it can't find the codec.

Re: Better with separate A5IT and A5IMT Open Development for

A605 WiFi needs to be separate from A5x as it seems quite different. Difficult to to spot the relevant threads. I see some value in this approach in that people who are reading the forums for help on using the hacks can get confused because they're not very familiar with the generation names, model...

Re: Quasar Media Player -armv7a- Fresh from teh 0venz

2 questions: 1 - none of my cover art is showing up in the playing view. Does it only support embedded art or have I not conf'd it properly? 2 - how did you change your font size? Is that E17-specific (looks like that's what you're running)? Edit - nevermind #2 - found the option in the View menu to...

Re: vnc viewer? on Angstrom

Check the compatible apps listing. You can get a vncviewer working by installing tightvnc-viewer and a missing dependency font-misc-misc.

Note that a desktop file is not created, meaning you have to run it from a terminal (or create your own desktop file).

Yes! At last, a media player that can read in my entire Music directory without crashing! Thank you! A little more info for those with little experience. Here's how I managed to get it installed. 0. Connect wifi 1. Open a root terminal. 2. Use wget to download the file (wget http://sites.google.com/...

Re: 5G constantly freezing during video playback

I submitted several requests via the website form back in Jan 2009 - received confirmation email and all. Still waiting to hear back from them. That's, what, 14+ months?

I'd suggest you take to the phone if you want to actually speak with someone.

Re: Bug: onscreen keyboard

I have an A5 IMT and can confirm this bug. In order to get a carat character I have to: ALT - ^ - ALT - ^ It's strange though - when you hit ALT the blue characters on the keys become larger so you know what they are and that they will be the character output if you hit that key. However when you fo...

Re: Cant get UpNp to work.

Another approach would be to take the Archos out of the equation - see if UPnP is even working in Vista. Do you have any other devices you could try connecting with? If everything works with another client of some sort (any UPnP client) then you can look at the Archos side of things. Does your route...

Re: A5 IMT 120Gb Hack or not to Hack

About the paying for Linux - I actually think Archos has done a fairly good job creating the shell the device uses. The OS itself is Linux but if you were to compare the AOS to the SDE (also Linux) you'll see that they've spent some time making it a much nicer user experience. I consider that as wha...

Re: Android upgrade

There are a few threads about porting Android to the 5IMT on these forums. In it the devs have stated that the IMT does not have the hardware power necessary (RAM, CPU) to run Android in any usable fashion. They are not pursuing it as far as I know.

Maybe the GPS cradle could be mounted to the wall? That might be the quickest way to get it mounted.

Re: Any Twitter apps for Archos 5?

One way to get new "applications" on the A5 is to find an Opera widget. Here's one for Twitter . I haven't tested it, but you can start there. If that one doesn't work, google for "opera twitter widget" and there are a few others you could try. To get the widget installed, download it (will be a zip...

Re: iPod/PC compatibility

Formatted for Mac means it is likely a drive with an HFS filesystem on it. Windows by default will not be able to read that filesystem, nor will any applications in Windows without first installing an HFS filesystem driver. Linux has this pretty much built in for most modern distributions. If you're...

Re: Looking for a tad more functionality in Angstrom.

opkg can be used to find specific pacakges to install. Just search for specific keywords like this: opkg list | grep keyword "opkg list" will list all available packages, and the grep part simply filters for the keyword. Each package will be listed with its name and a brief description. If you want ...
