Re: Archos 7 Locks up Opera when surfing to Newegg.com
Hi All: Just took delivery of a new Archos 7. I intend to provide my initial impressions after I have played with it some more. One curiosity though, I am having issues with Opera locking up anytime I try to surf to the NewEgg.com website. I am sure there are a lot of techies here other than myself...

Re: Encoding Issues
Okay, I think I've finally got it. I just watched a 1 hour 45 minute and (2) 45 minute episodes with no stalling. There seems to be a pretty big difference between the UI on the MAC and PC versions of Handbrake. I had to select "None" and then went to "Strict" to purge the default 320x.... that Han...

Re: Another angle for download movies and videos
I read a lot of people having probs trying to watch downloaded videos on their A7's etc.. I must have lucked in that all my videos are of the right type and codec as I haven't yet encountered a video that doesn't work on my A7.. That's not luck, it's because YouTube detects your player's version, a...

Re: Battery Life :D
Yes, here too. Did you "condition" the battery? FWIW: To condition the battery for max capacity, play a video with "repeat" turned on so it won't go to sleep, and run the battery empty and recharge 3 times, and never leave it plugged in all the time. Is this something you would have had to do from ...

My bad, hadn't thought of the Archos usage lol..Charbax wrote:Flash chat isn't as good as AJAX stuff. And that complicated Flash chat probably wouldn't work correctly if at all on Archos devices while the AJAX chats work just fine.

Re: A 7 or a 5 ? what to buy?
Thanks for the replies. Plumped for the 7, but only the 160gig - boss wouldn't let me spend more (she wants new bathrooms) Don't think I'll have a problem with the space - the 40gig has never been full. Nearet I've ever got was about 35gig. Can't wait till Friday now when the new toy arrives ! 160G...

Re: A 7 or a 5 ? what to buy?
Afternoon all. Been lurking the 605 forums for about 6 months now, so thought it was time to sign up as I'm planning an upgrade. Had my 605wifi for a while now and my son is having that (for free, of course). Just not sure whether to buy the 7 or the 5. I can get the 250gig 5 or 160gig 7 for about ...

WMV11 plays fine on the Archos 5. I've done one Blu-ray rip and it was fine. Picture quality was pretty good but I haven't yet gotten it fine tuned. I am having problems with rips and the 4gb file size limit. I tried xilisoft and it's not worked very well when I've had to request a file split to wo...

Re: Noooooooooo!
Hey, I just got my A5 fixed through RMA, its costing me $135. This is the price with return shipping. Again, its the A5, so since its a larger screen, I would assume like just short of $200. Just a guess. ---Jaeger Hmm gonna have to call them as STILL haven't heard back from them.. Mind you the new...

Double Life Batteries
Gotta like that.. I have two double life batteries I purchased for my A7s because of how much I use them on the road mostly for portfolio work and web communications while away from home. Though the typical 4 to 5 hours of video play time on the standard battery was sufficient for most cases, the do...

Wireless VOIP on the A7? Heck, wireless VOIP with a laptop sucks at best, so I wouldn't bet much for the A7 being good at it.rootman wrote:Why no mic?
These would be great for voip if they had a mic.

Re: Encoding Issues
I wouldn't fault the unit as it may just be the way Handbrake handles the files, I remember not liking it too much.. however, I don't have too many issues when doing up my DVDs to AVi with my PCs.. no issues wherever watching videos etc on the A7 I thought about 1500kpbs being too much, but the DVD ...

I have had success with Amazon Unbox portable files and Blu-ray digital "Plays for Sure" copies. I have also watched an entire movie via the Cinema Plug-in in VOB format. However, I ran into a problem this week with three different mp4's that I made. For all three, I used Handbrake and used strict ...
