Re: Archos keys

So you are trying to read the keys with a working kernel? I am not yet trying. But yes, at the moment when init scripts runs and loads kernel modules and then switches "/" to rootfs.cramfs. I thought I could use hexdump from busybox it actually works giving some values, but was lazy to recompile bu...

Re: SDE and battery health...

>Could you please provide us with the link as to where you got the replacement battery Unfortunately - no. The only thing I can tell is that they were Chinese manufacturers. They sell batteries by 1000 pieces. I wrote them an e-mail asking how can I buy a battery and was offered a free sample. Guess...

Re: Archos keys

There is no need to implement a custom boot loader for booting from the USB. Right know what I do is loading appropriate drivers and then <u>unconditionally</u> checking the appearance of a USB device which should be connected before the boot. Since loading drivers and population of sysfs takes time...

Re: SDE and battery health...

Well, a year ago my battery in my A5-60G with the official firmware got inflated like a pillow. It banded the PCB and broke the phone jack connection which forced me to open the unit and find that out. A5 and, I think, A7 too, use Li-Po, not Li-Ion, batteries which can make a wonderful fire. I would...

Re: archos-tools seg fault

I found that the problem was in optfs and bitmapfs files. Firstly they are not extracted by cramfsck which complained about wrong magic, and then the repack script couldn't do right things adding an extra "header". Since I didn't plan to change them I just commented out all the lines in the two scri...

Re: archos-tools seg fault

Tried your suggestion, aos-repack stopped complains about flash/boot1_0x00030000, but: #aos-repack --aos --a5 --digest digest --verbose -o firmware_archos5-7.aos aos-repack utility, part of aos-tools http://code.google.com/p/aos-tools/ http://archos.g3nius.org/ flash/boot1_0x00030000: The file is sp...

Re: Archos keys

Of course it can boot normally. I modified the init script in the boot1 loader and patched the 1.6.54 firmware in steps. Worked fine. But today, I upgraded to 1.7.11 and forgot that it does not allow DTI hack, so I tried to repack the firmware and found that aos-tools do not work. Sad. I published t...

Re: Archos keys

At the boot stage it is not a normal device: pressing "volume up" during boot drives you to a recovery image. I want to press "volume down" during the boot process making the system check the presence of a USB stick and if so boot from it instead of a rootfs image. Right now, I unconditionally check...

archos-tools seg fault

When I try to repack aos 1.7.11 patched firmware with the most recent version of aos-tools I get a segmentation fault at the final stage. Unpacking goes with signature not valid warning, which I assume is ok. However, the unpack.sh script fails because aos-unpack says: File is signed, but signature ...

Archos keys

Does anybody know how to get volume rocker key press during the init stage? I know that recovery uses aui (auibox) binary to walk through menu, but it seems to require auid running, which never returns and might prevent normal booting. rootfs has a hexdump compiled in busybox, which does give key pr...

Re: libc dilemma

That's strange.
I mean that this particular version has been set up by default and there is no need to mangle with this variable.

It looks like you have misconfigured system.

Re: libc dilemma

There is a PREFERRED_VERSION_glibc ?= "2.6.1" environment variable set up in angstrom-2008.1.conf

If you have got `2.9` then it means that you didn't set up your configuration correctly.

Re: Poky Platform Builder

This is just a suggestion and there is no need to attack me for it. No, I am not attacking you, I am trying to stress the point that the distribution and the build system do not matter. Even initial Archos "toolchain" works and allows to compile projects. The problem is not there. I'm not sure why ...

Re: Poky Platform Builder

Will you explain why? Why should people jump into just another distribution when there exists a working OE with Angstrom and Archos patched kernel? The problem is not a distribution and not even a build system. The problem is the existence of appropriate packages. Better to say: not existence. There...

After unscrewing the four (or 3) screws under rubber stands push thin nails in 3 holes at each long side.
The cover should pop up.

Re: QT embedded on Archos 5

First, I can post, but have no idea how.

The other thing is that Qt is just a library, well, framework too, but not on A5, 'coz there are no idiots to design on A5.

So, Qt is not useful until there are a window manager built on it.

Re: Writing software for the built in OS?

There is no problem to install telnet or ssh - just compile it on any SDK and make a rootfs.cramfs image.

You can also try to compile frame-buffer vnc-server and install it the same way. It exists in OE SDK.

Re: Android port to 6th gen Archos 5

Android is built on libc and kernel is not needed at all. I'm having a difficult time understanding what you are saying here. The kernel is definitely needed. The kernel is essentially the operating system, it supports the hardware and provides an abstract layer for hardware access. The kernel is d...

Re: Android port to 6th gen Archos 5

Getting a working kernel is the first step it would be true if you did not have a working system. In "our" case it is the "lastest" step I would be concerned of. And only if I wanted to connect a new hardware. Personally I don't get all that buzz you guys built up around kernel and it's versions. K...
