Re: oh look shiny! (gen6 boot menu)

Just decided to give up on DRM keys and install the dual-boot AOS. So far, I find it quite responsive and usable. Although having an Archos 5, small buttons are evil >_<

Hmm... I see lots of possibilities for this thing now.

Thanks CheBuzz!

Re: Backing up DRM keys?

Guys just use the patched SDE from archos.g3nius.org, I have finally got thr dual boot working, not lost my DRM keys, and have the patched AVOS with the GF hack and Angstrom using Kevin's latest files. I still have the ability to play DRM content I guess and no HDD lock checks in place. Me talking ...

Backing up DRM keys?

So, with the advent of the dual boot, I'm mostly decided to give the SDE a try. However, something that does worry me somewhat is losing the DRM keys. I have never played any DRM'd content in my A5 so far (And I seriously doubt I will), but I don't like losing features just for the sake of it. If I ...

Re: Step-by-step for building Angstrom for the A5

Nice tutorial. I might give it a shot.

Just a question... Since you used Ubuntu over Virtualbox (all free software), would be requesting the .vdi of your already set-up environment asking too much? :P

Archos 5 60 just Jailbroken. I had problems running the jailbreak in .53, so I update to .54 and then worked.

Re: Installing torrent client.

Just a side note. Blizzard uses Bittorrent in their file downloaders for game updates, demos, and digitally distributed games. Most Linux distros can be downloaded by Bittorrent. Bittorrent is just a tool, a communication protocol. Itself can't be deemed "illegal". In fact, from a technica...

Re: Installing torrent client.

I'd be mildly surprised if there was anywhere in the civilised world where it would be lawful to take a commercial DVD and distribute it over the Internet to strangers. I'm happy to be corrected, of course. As long as you don't make money from it, spanish law covers distributing it as a private cop...

Re: Installing torrent client.

Although there are legitimate reasons for the existence of BitTorrent, given that it is primarily used for unauthorized copying, I can't imagine that Archos would be interested in having it used on their units. They must get complaints already that they are selling something which is mainly of inte...

Re: Under the hood...

Count me as interested in your progress. Even if I have a 60 GB unit that, if I'm not mistaken, uses a PATA drive, turning the A5 into a linux handheld device would be nice. Especially since my new phone would probably replace it as a media player otherwise. [email protected] tourian :~/archos/AX06_GPL/avx6/l...

They still have to fix the Network Shares browsing bug they introduced in the last firmware.

Re: Hacking the Opera plug-in for the 605WiFi

If you don't know the private key and tried to brute force your way it could take eons to break even with a super computer. Or a couple of weeks with distributed cracking software. I made an estimate that if every atom in the universe checked a billion keys per second it would still take infinitely...

Or a couple of weeks with distributed cracking software. But I doubt we can even start considering that sort of solution. XD

Re: Gen 6 GPL code up at Archos site

I think the jtag is not very important to hack the device. I have got a beagle board with a omap3530 soldered. There is a pin (number AE21) called "sys_boot5",which connected with a button, control the boot process of the omap. The omap35xx will boot from the onboard flash if the "sys_...

Re: Archos 5 - hard drive replacement

The HD serial number can probably be changed with the right equipment - problem is, that sort of equipment isn't cheap at all. I don't think so...it is just programmed somewhere in flash. But it is encrypted and even if you knew how the encryption works and how to open it, at this time there's no st...

Re: ID3 tags - Best practice and experience?

Archos 5/7 seems to be very picky with ID3 Tags, ignoring the ones with the slightiest amount of corruption. Corrupted ID3 Tags are quite common, and some audio players, like the Archos 5/7 just ignore them. In layman's terms: http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/1740/mp3howto.png The most effective solut...

I have no problem with that. When I bought my A5, I didn't want a phone. I wanted a PMP with Web Browsing via WiFi. And that, I got.
