I have my router set to mixed mode (G+N) and the Archos doesn't care. I never got WPA working with 2 different D-link routers and the 5. One was at a friends house, so I simply can't connect there. The other was mine; switching to WPA2 allowed it to work most of the time, but I had other problems ...

My 5 still works fine for what I need it for, so I won't consider replacing it until it breaks. At that point I would give preference to an open device over another closed Archos, but if the Archos were still the only device that met my needs (as the 5 was) then I would get another.

Are you using any form of encryption? The 5 is known to have issues with WPA encryption on some D-Link routers.

Depends when it left the Archos factory and how long it sat somewhere. Also, they probably do not update the initial image to the latest firmware as soon as it comes out, with possible exceptions such as the "Cannot downgrade from here" firmwares. I would imagine those questions depend on the details of the host. One thing to remember is that if you start adding too much stuff your power requirements might call for some pretty large additional batteries.

No idea on the answer to your question, but most people want the card memory treated the same as internal memory, look at all the complaints about the Creative players which keep the two apart. So if Archos was listening to that type of feedback they are probably joined.
