Re: Update Failed NOK (code 207)

What firmware were you trying to flash? That message is normally shown when flashing a patched firmware on a stock device that hasn't been jailbroken yet >.> Also, which device are you using?

Re: Urgent help needed from Archos 5 owners - deadline comin

To get a decent quality DVD rip, you should expect a 700-900mb file. I haven't used handbrake on windows, but the big thing that you need to look for is which "codec" the video is encoded with. Cinepak is included with Windows I believe, but most people prefer DivX or XviD (you can get them by downl...

Re: Need help accessing hidden partition, please!

Ok, so I was eventually directed to TestDisk, which is able to find the exact location of the hidden partition and as a result I'm now back up and running my patched firmware, and working on a new boot logo =)

Thanks dm8tbr!

Re: Need help accessing hidden partition, please!

Ok, so I'm back to trying to get this to work and after doing a dd starting from the offset 249727726080 (which is correct per the tutorials and my previous scripts before sending it for RMA) and reading the file from a hex editor, I found that there is a **LOT** of blank space before any data start...

Re: Need help accessing hidden partition, please!

BTW, this was under the lucid lynx build of ubuntu (10.04). I reverted to karmic koala (9.10) and still had the same issue. When using a live CD instead of a hard drive boot, it changes from loop0 to loop1, but nothing else changed. > I can bounce between 1.7.11 and 1.7.17 firmwares and boot into th...

Need help accessing hidden partition, please!

I have an A5 250GB IMT that was received as an RMA unit from Archos, running 1.7.17 firmware out of the box. The first thing I did with the unit after checking the firmware version was attempt to downgrade ( source ) to a version that the GF hack works from. However, the commands that worked before ...

Re: Recovery Looping

Sounds like you formatted your hidden partition. This also erases the kernel and the device will always go into recovery. Install a regular firmware through an AOS file first before you attempt anything else. I think the problem was that the drive was sent out damaged, or at least the partition tab...

Recovery Looping

So my A5 just came back from a warranty battery repair, and the device kept unmounting itself from the USB. I decided that I would just install an older firmware and do the guy fawkes hack after it came back up...problem is, it won't take and is now looping recovery mode. First, I copied 1.6.54 (ori...

A5 IMT - firmware progress?

It's been a while since I had the spare time to mess around with my A5 250GB IMT, and I was wondering what progress has been made on the firmware since the first few months of the year on the angstrom build, or any other builds now available. I checked the OpenAOS site and it's down =( Thanks in adv...

Re: Custom boot logo, fw, and other hacks collection site

It's mostly for legal purposes - we'd put it on the web script too :P Realistically, if you follow the instructions carefully and accurately, the chances of you bricking your device are slim to none (but if you do, it's still not our fault!) :) On your device, the two things you need to check to pre...

Re: Custom boot logo, fw, and other hacks collection site

Well, you don't need to pack it in with a firmware - the AOS file is kind of like a ZIP file in that it's just a container; it doesn't really hold much significance other than it's Archos' special format. The AOS file contains a digest file which tells your device what commands to execute, so all yo...

Re: Custom boot logo, fw, and other hacks collection site

Well, a couple weeks ago I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, and now I at least have a basic understanding of the process and the components involved. I've seen people do some pretty ridiculous stuff and knowing what people are capable of, I'm slightly paranoid, though I feel it's justified :...

Re: Custom boot logo, fw, and other hacks collection site

Haha...point taken :D I just figure well, if I'm going to have boot logos, I should prolly provide some firmware downloads too...and if I'm going to do that I should prolly have the DTI exploit...meh might as well just have everything so that it only takes one site to go from stock to glory :P It to...

So the lack of any signups is a bit disheartening, but that's ok! Tell me what I need to do to get you interested, or at least contributing material!

To the person with my sense of humor:
I don't have any money, try plan B? :P
