Commercial TV is always going to be limited by content rights limitations. Commercial stations around the world purchase licences from programming producers (studios, etc.) to distribute their content for the station's viewing area. So while I would love to watch BBC1 and BBC2 from the UK here in Ca...

Good luck with this... In such a lawsuit, Archos would blame Opera which developed the browser, and Opera would blame the website developer. They would argue that it's the developer's fault for not using a format that is compatible with all browsers. They would then point to all the other websites t...

Since I can't use my Archos to stream a specific radio station and since I have no hacking skills, I am considering changing to an iTouch. Will that browser allow me to stream audio?

No.

I am a Starchoice satellite TV user in Gatineau, Qu├®bec. My Archos' location is set to Montr├®al (because there is no Ottawa setting and it's the nearest choice*) I am not sure how much this matters but it was mentioned. Recently, the Archos TV guide info is either out-of-date or missing altogether...

I'd take it too. Mine works fine with the new firmware. I haven't had any Wifi or touch screen issues at all.

(And I don't know any advanced mp3 player that doesn't have some firmware bugs. Go to the Apple forums and there are long threads about firmware bugs on Nanos, Touches and Classics too.)

I don't have Direct TV so haven't had the problems others have here. But I think that the picture quality on the recorded programming isn't as good as before. I think I see more blocking during faster motion scenes on recordings now than I did before. Does anyone else notice this? I rechecked all my...

The whole zoom thing is a nifty feature. It's so intuitive. I also like the fact that the iTouch seems to do a better job at finding and connecting to open networks. As I walk around the city and pull out my iTouch to check something, more often than not, it's already connected to an open network it...

I have both as well. Which one do you prefer for web surfing? I tend to use the iPod touch for web surfing more often than the Archos. The advantage of the iPod is that you can save websites as icons on the homescreen for easy access. The fact that I can open the Toronto Star or the local weather ra...

I have both. The Archos is way ahead as far as functionality is concerned. You can use it as a DVR, can stream mms:// files, play more video/audio formats, etc etc. I haven't played with the iPod touch web browser much but know that it can't handle streaming media - so no internet radio, which is a ...

It just feels more durable. Some of the tests on Youtube have been pretty rough on it too.

I have twice accidentally dropped mine from waist level onto a hardwood floor with no damage other than a nearly imperceptible nick. But the case feels a bit flimsy. There is a spot around the headphone jack that seems to give a little when you press on it (and not hard either.) I keep mine mostly o...

I had thrown together a quick pick list of a dozen stations I listen to often for easy access. This is in no way meant to compete with the portal, which is awesome. It's just for my own personal use; a quick and dirty way to keep my favourites available. Feel free to add any of the links as you see ...

Not sure if you are still around but try downloading the "test" version (0.3.96). It seems stable and fixed the "Stopped working" error with Vista.

Thanks. I really appreciate the effort. Unfortunately I keep getting "Not Responding" errors with PocketDivx Encoder on both my desktop and laptop. But maybe I can try it with another, less buggy, encoder. EDIT: According to their changelog, the "stable" version - 0.3.60 - doesn'...

Here's one I have been encountering occasionally. I encode a movie clip that is 1 hour 1 minute long (1h01'06), then load on my Archos. On the video menu it correctly shows the clip as being 1 hour 1 minute long (1h01'06). When I start to play it, the status bar at the bottom correctly shows it as 1...

Support for streaming radio. I know there are some stations on the Archos portal (cheers to whoever did that), but it would be nice to access any internet radio station on the internet. Support for Flash embedded players and Real and Windows Media Player streaming should be there, at the very least....

I don't like that my Starchoice Motorola DSR-505 satellite box itself isn't supported and that I can't get it to change channels, but am hoping I can find a workaround. Look on the Internet if your device basically is the same hardware as some other brands. Often the brand is different but the hard...

I am also a Media Coder user. Some of the DVDs I have converted look awesome on the 605.

You can also use it to convert other video clips and strip sound off a video and save as an mp3 file, if there is a music clip you want to save. There is a splice and paste feature too.

I wanted a small player that I could just schedule to record TV and then could grab and take with me to watch when I have to go on road trips. I fly often, hotel TV choices are slim and I wanted to keep up on my favourite shows. I also didn't want the hassle of having to do time consuming file conve...
