FYI - Noreve USA Closed

Just an FYI for Noreve Case fans - I got an email today from Noreve USA saying that they have closed their doors. All pending orders will be fulfilled by Noreve France, so lead times for N America will be a BIT slower .

Oh well.

Re: Alternative to Bluetooth tethering

I haven't seen the heuwai e5830 available in the US so the MiFi seems to be the best multi-purpose option outside of BT teathering. I use mine with my laptop, PSP, A5A, Zune and anything else I've got that uses wi-fi when I'm out and about. I haven't had any problems connecting or getting a signal i...

Re: Cases

Cost can be an issue. I had a case made by Noreve USA from one of their premium leathers and that ran me $70. Before that I got a stock Archos sleeve case from Amazon for $25. It was nothing special, but it protected the device when not in use. Many camera cases will work too with room for accessori...

Re: Archos 5 (Android) Accessories

I can definately say that the DVR station that works with the non-android A5 will work with the new Android A5. All the A5 accessories work, except for the FM remote.

Re: Alternative to Bluetooth tethering

I got a MiFi from Verizon and it is much faster than my old usb modem via WiFi and will work with my Archos unit flawlessly. It was one of the best gadget support purchases I ever made. 8)

Re: So owners, hows the A5A?

If all you want is a PMP that plays basic video/music files, then it is great. If you want some of the other features (Internet, apps, GPS or HD playback) then you may run into a few hiccups that will (or won't) get fixed via the pretty regular updates. I use my 500gb unit primarily as a video playe...

Re: Amazon.com: 500GB is now $499, 160GB $389 and 32GB $369

I just got an email from Amazon with the 500gb version ETA... NOVEMBER 30TH   Best Buy still has 10/19 - 10/24 as their estimated delivery date so I don't know what's up there. Still, 11/30!

Re: Amazon...(original price)

Best Buy had the $25 dollar deposit to hold a Zune HD at launch which I paid. On the 16th I went to pick it up and they didn't have any. Apparently, according to them, Microsoft didn't send them enough to cover the pre orders. Personally, I think the regional buyer thought that no one would want a Z...

Re: Amazon...(original price)

Amazon went from 429 to 499 fairly quickly after the announcement, but I just updated my preorder at Amazon with the new price now on their site, 419 :!: Best Buy is still at 429 although if you want brick & mortar.

BB screwed me with my preordered Zune HD so I'll stick with Amazon.

Re: What the is Video Card in the Archos 9?

I've installed Win 7 RC 1 on my HP Mini 1035nr and it runs pretty smoothly with Aero on. The GPU is an Intel 945, so no great horsepower here. Considering the Archos 9 is being touted as a netbook, I wouldn't expect much of a graphical powerhouse. The Viliv example is probably the best. Performance ...

Re: Playing stopped. File is Corrupted.

I've found that I run into this problem if I don't use WindowsMedia to transfer files or if I don't update the library. I still run into it from time to time even so, but definately not as often.

Well done answering your own question!

Re: GPS and TMC with Archos 5

I bought my GPS holder right after they were announced for the 605. It came with the TMC antenna, but it is so weak that it can't pick up a signal even if it was next to the broadcast tower. My Garmin picks it up in a snap.

Re: Archos 5 160GB and Zune Marketplace Pass files

I have a Zune MP subscription too and I use Tunebite to re-encode the files after I download them so I can use them on my Archos units. I've never tried to transfer Zune DRM files to my Archos, so I really can't comment on that side of things, but Tunebite works VERY well.

Re: NEW FIRMWARE Archos 5 and Archos 7 OS v 1.6.53

I used the A5 with the GPS yesterday and it works great. Much faster than the 605. Also, the music player will work while the GPS is active, big plus.

Re: Hard Drive "Chirp"

A lot of times, that chirp is made when the drive doesn't get enough power. I've got an external drive that has two USB plugs on the cable, one says Power and the other says Power+Data. With a USB 2.0 port, only the Power+Data is needed and if a USB 1.0 port is used then both plugs are needed. Every...

Re: Hard Drive "Chirp"

Well, nothing worked. The drive still revs up, pauses the movie, and then resumes. I guess I'm going to do another RMA to Amazon. I haven't decided if I want to try a 3rd one yet, I'm leaning towards "no".

Re: Hard Drive "Chirp"

I'm going to try a few different tools tonight to see if there is some way to fix the unit, but this is a brand new unit right out of the box having these problems. I wouldn't expect these kinds of issues until much later in the lifespan. This is the first Archos device I've owned (and I've owned at...

Re: Hard Drive "Chirp"

Well these replies are good to hear, but now I am having a problem with pauses while watching videos. The drive will spin up, the video will pause for a second, and then resume. This happens every couple of minutes. My original unit (that also had the bad pixels) didn't do this. So far, I am more th...

Hard Drive "Chirp"

I am on my second A7 (returned one to Amazon after a couple of weeks due to this issue and a HUGE amount of bad pixels). Each of the units I've had will "chirp" occationally while watching a movie (xvid and WMV - I haven't tried a VOB file yet). In my experience, this usually means that th...
