Firefox for Android and the Archos 5

Well I'm starting to see the limits of this device. It's only Android 1.6 and as such we can't even install Firefox on it as it requires 2.0 and up. What a pain in the ass, I really wish they would put the effort in and update it to something 2.x instead of abandon it like they have in the past. I m...

Yeah I might have to do that, I was just hoping maybe something was in the cards for native support.

OGG/OGM

Hey so I have some ogg media, like ogm vids. Does anyone know if Archos is bringing ogg/ogm support to A5A? I think it would be pretty worthwhile.

Oh, and I'm loving my A5A more and more as I delve into apps and other such things, this is what I wanted my 605 to be. :)

Re: Battery problems

Sorry for the impatience. I've had to send past devices into Archos for RMA before and I was really wanting to avoid doing that. First, to answer your questions buster. The only real new variable to my behavior with the archos was that for 3 days straight it was plugged in playing music constantly. ...

Battery problems

Yes, I tried using the search, but it's useless because it wont let me search based on those two words... "Battery Problems" in this thread. Get with the times guys. Back on topic: So I went to a LAN party this weekend and used my A5A the whole weekend as my source of music. It was plugged...

Android keeps crashing, I think?

Okay so I start playing something after my system has been idle for a long time, and it looks like the Android part crashes and reloads. How I conclude this is that I get a quick spike in audio volume to quite high, and back to lower than it was before. I then see the Android loading screen, and it ...

Re: Windows 7 64bit not loading A5A MTP driver

Okay so it turns out that Microsoft releases regional versions. I have Windows 7 N Ultimate 64bit, there's also KN too. These versions are missing things intentionally to adhere to EU standards. As such I installed Windows Media Player and it now picks up on the device. Woo hoo! Thanks for the tips ...

Are you guys running home/pro/ult? I'm on ult, and in MTP mode. I have tried plugging directly into the mobo and so far has no impact. :(

Re: How can YOU help Open Development?

I for one would like to see the 600 series (EG: 605 Wifi) be allowed to swap in our own HDD's. While I'm confident this is beyond your current capabilities, I would appreciate push-back on this. This would enable me to use things such as the open-source solutions.

Re: Rolling Open Development back to the 600 series pls?

So just to be clear, has anyone had any success replacing the HDD in a 605 series device with their own HDD? I did that a long time ago (80G in a 605-30) but you don't want to know that because I did that with a hackable firmware. You probably want to know whether it can be done on a non-hackable f...

Re: Rolling Open Development back to the 600 series pls?

I just verified. Both the gen6 and gen7 SDE recovery kernels perform the hdd_lock. The init (regular) kernel does not, and wouldn't matter if it did as you could just write your own. So the short answer is... you can run a custom HDD using the SDE. But if the original HDD ever dies, then you will N...

Re: Rolling Open Development back to the 600 series pls?

Yeah, sorry, sloppy writing. And what you want still doesn't happen to Gen 6 and 7 devices with the SDE installed to the best of my knowledge. If you know something else, please let us know more (step-by-step guide maybe?)! Michael I'm just going off second hand information which someone told me on...

Re: Rolling Open Development back to the 600 series pls?

Unless something is going on that I really am unaware of, the open development SDE does not unlock the HDD of devices where it has been installed. Does anyone have any evidence to the contrary, as that would be rather massive news... Michael My understanding is the device is locked to the HDD seria...

Rolling Open Development back to the 600 series pls?

Okay so I have a (almost) perfectly working Archos 605 WIFI, problem is the HDD died, and well... It's supposedly serial locked to the device. As such, can Archos please unlock this series so I can replace the HDD and bring it back online? I know it will take some time, and I'm more than willing to ...

Re: Backing up DRM keys?

This post is relevant to my legitimate interests. I too would consider the SDE if I could revert some time to a DRM-enabled state.
