Moldy Cheese for 4 GB and 160 GB 605s

The current Moldy Cheese hack does not work for the 4 GB flash-based 605 or the 160 GB version. This obviously prevents a significant percentage of 605 owners from using the hack. I don't know why the hack does not work on the 4 GB model, but it was explained in the original Moldy Cheese thread that...

Media capabilities

What media capabilities will this allow? I know that it was possible to use mplayer on the first build of Qtopia for some audio playback, but has video been tested yet? Is the Archos 605 capable of handling 720p H.264? I would really benefit (and I'm sure many others would as well) from being able t...

And I don't really see what using streaming video would do for you unless you want to receive screen updates really _fast_. The only situation I can think of where this is crucual is where you're actually (a) streaming video anyway, or (b) playing games. In case (a) you might just as well stream th...

Thanks for the help. I was able to use VNC, although the stylus doesn't work very well on an interface not designed for use with one. I was able to get a sense of how much lag there would be between something happening on my computer and being displayed on the Archos. I was surprised by how responsi...

How does one get VNC working on a 605? I have Qtopia on my player but I haven't figured out how to enable networking within it. Well, I guess I haven't really tried for more than a minute or two, but would somebody care to explain the procedure to do so, which would save me some time?

Maybe there's a way to set up X11 with a second display that would then be streamed to the Archos. If raw video were sent, how much bandwidth would that use? 802.11g offers around 18Mbps of real data transfer. Maybe compression wouldnt be necessary, or a relatively simple codec could be used that do...

Idea for a hack

This is more of an extra use for an Archos player rather than a hack, but it would still be cool. Windows Vista has this thing called SideShow, which allows an external device to display things that would be convenient to have on something other than your main display. What is this?

I was browsing through the filesystem and found this file: /mnt/system/dc.dat

It makes references to a private key and I was wondering if it would be of any use.

I found a place through Google that claims to have the camera in stock. However, it is $400 more than other retailers. I have never heard of this store before so be sure to research it if you choose to buy it from them. Link: www.enterprisephoto.com/item.asp?item=441127 There are two places that I c...

Plugins

We know that the .aas files are encrypted, and it seems trivial to try and crack this encryption. The .aas file is placed onto the device and then enables the feature provided by the plugin, but I doubt that it is necessary for the file to remain there afterwards. If this is the case, then the file ...
