Re: Google Chrome OS, probably like Android 2.0

For HD video editing, you preferably need 10mbit/s upload for it to encode your files faster than a local computer would. More and more people have fiber uploads, and professionnals who want fast video editing and encoding well they just better try to get such fast upload connections. Otherwise the...

Re: Micro-usb plug on the device?

You can't have a dozen mini input/output connectors on the side of the device, Wouldn't need to. A single mini HDMI would do the lot for the audio and video I/O A full mini USB would do for connecting to any tuners, synching and charging. If you want a fast charge option then a standard barrel conn...

Re: Archos 5 LCD vs 4.8" OLED screen in a video

Gold color would differentiate Archos from competitors and really show the super high value of Archos products compared to plastic competitors. Basically like comparing a plastic watch with a gold all metallic handmade watch. Ummmm, except it would still be plastic painted gold... And gold paint on...

Re: Micro-usb plug on the device?

It seems the EU is regulating that all Smartphones should have a micro-USB connector directly on the device as a standard for charging. Hopefully, like with the Archos 705, the PMA400 and some previous models, that Archos will re-instate the built-in standard micro-USB connector on the side of the ...

What is the native resolution of the screen? Is the battery user removeable and replaceable? Is the hard drive user removeable and replaceable without any form of enforced lock-in? (80GB is way to small, should have been a 320GB drive in there minimum) Any proprietary connectors requiring the custom...

update again- ...im still totally gobsmacked with the support from noreve especially as it was originally a gift.... Re: Has anyone scratched their Archos 5 screen yet?

so i managed to really scratch up my screen today in my shorts pocket. i have no idea how it happened, b/c nothing was in the pocked except for my a5. You answered your own question. I'd never put anything with a screen loose in a pocket, even an empty pocket. Cloth is easily capable of putting fin...

Re: HAS ARCHOS GONE TOO FAR THIS TIME

Archos is the worlds most awesome company No it's not, you are just blinded by free review samples. everyone will own the Archos Android devices and you know it. No they will not. Archos is still a very small name in a large pond. Their continued lack of customer support, the bug issues, poor sound...

Re: Firmware Hack Possible?

Daft really. If they opened up the device to the community or at least didn't actively try to shut it out, then it would make the brand far more popular. I have an iRiver H320 mp3 player. A few years out of date now but because the firmware was hacked (Rockbox) it and several other compatible player...

Re: Archos 5 - hard drive replacement

Yep, their pettiness with such things as locking down the hard drive, the numerous docks, no standard usb connection, paying for codecs etc. rather than just supplying a product that is complete means I'll be looking elsewhere next time - fed up of their sales techniques I'm afraid.

Re: question about the "finish" on peoples 5's fading

I couldn't even think of putting something with an exposed screen like that in a pocket without any form of protection... :)

Always been overly careful with my stuff. Had my old iPaq in a Proporta aluminium case which was then protected by a zipped leather case! :D

Re: Volume issue (again)...

You have to be a bit careful about relying on this sort of thing. I remember with the battery dock on the 605, for a while you could get a greater headphone volume from the headphone jack on the dock than on the unit itself. Then Archos `fixed' it to bring it down to the same level. My point is tha...

Re: Volume issue (again)...

the fm remote's attached to a different output.. not from the headphone jack but by the bottom.. and the volume is way louder. I think it's cos they were afraid that some radio stations would not be loud enough hence the additional volume through remote. Is this confirmed on audio from the Archos i...

Volume issue (again)...

I know the subject of the low volume level has been done to death and it looks like Archos are not going to implement any change even if it required the owner to complete a legal disclaimer but I really do see it as a major 'fault' if you like and something that will prevent me from considering anot...

Re: Glossy Archos 5 and Matte Archos 5 - Pictures

They'd probably say they are covered by the usual "specifications are subject to change without notice" clause. I.e. they subsitute a larger drive when needed according to their inventory/buying deals etc. and now seems they are doing the same with the panels to cut costs. The 'sparklyness...

Re: Flickering screen

It's nothing to do with a faulty screen or battery maximising it's because they use a 6 bit screen rather than an 8 bit and dither/alternate to get the missing colours. Depending on the contrast/brightness combination (which is actually only changing the palette mixing/dithering) you will see flicke...
