I think your problem might be that you are in "child mode." When in this mode you cannot copy files from your archos or vice versa to a external HDD. Go to parental control and put it in Adult mode. Hope that helps.

Update :-


It did turn on(after repated retries) , decided to back up all the movies/ music. COmplete the backup, fully charged the archos, did a full reinitialization . Again copied the backedup data back to Archos . The very next day tried to turn on the Archos, bang - the very same problem ...

I use statics-
I stick my fingers in the wall AC power until I'm fully charged, then I move my hand over the A605 to attract the dirt to my fingers, then I wash my hands in the sink, and then I just reset my archos...
