Re: Big announcements for Android - 2.0 and free navigation

I have read that you can cache the route before you leave home or at a wifi spot in order to access Google Maps while out of internet range.

Re: No N-Draf (270)

The reason the 802.11n is only 2.4 Ghz is more than likely 2 reasons. Size and cost. There is only so much room in there and to install another transceiver to operate on 5Ghz would be a bit more cost and need more room for components and another antenna. Then there is always interference issues. I h...

Re: getting my new Android Archos - eventually

Same here I ordered on Sunday Archos emailed me for two forms of ID on Monday, which I scanned and emailed back within 10 minutes. 1 hour later, Archos confirmed reciept of I.D and said device has been shipped. No hassle at all Will be with me tomorrow Very irresponsible for Archos to have you emai...

Re: Please help me decide - Sonos/iphone has just confused me!

If you are considering the sonos/iPOD combination, the at the moment, I would say the iPod simply because of the app availability. I don't know if there is an android app, thats something you would have to look for. Even if there was an android sonos app, then I would be tempted to wait and see if t...

Invisible shield 50% off again this weekend EXTENDED!

ust thought I'd give anyone who was thinking of getting an invisible shield protection package for their Archos units a heads up. I received an email stating I could get invisible sheild for any supported product for half price. I assume its only for the U.S. Memorial holiday. Use discount code &quo...

Re: well i just bought the viliv S5.....and the archos 5 wins

I kind of figured there would be no comparison if you were counting on it to perform like the A5 in the media area. Lets face it, Archos has really made it their main focus and it shows over the generations. The Viliv was not meant to please only media playing people. Just a few suggestions below th...

Re: Viliv S5 & S7 - Atom-based MID & UMPC

It *looks* interesting, but 60GB just isn't going to get it (for me). This thing uses a 1.8" drive which, if you look around enough, aren't too plentiful or cheap. One can usually find a 120GB Toshiba ZIF, an unobtanium out-of-production 160GB Samsung, and a 240GB Toshiba which probably won't ...

Re: Viliv S5 & S7 - Atom-based MID & UMPC

In the end, Iets just say I hope I can continue with Archos, but I can't wait much longer and I'm at the point where I am willing to pocket something much larger , slower, and twice as heavy. But thats just me I am totally with that comment. Here we have a device (the S5) which you feel like you're...

Re: Viliv S5 & S7 - Atom-based MID & UMPC

Viliv is not in any type of lead. Archos released the Archos 5 nearly 6 months ago in a much better form factor with much better value even back then. If you absolutely want Skype and VPN features, wait for the Android Archos device next month, or two months from now, whenever Archos is ready to la...

Re: Viliv S5 & S7 - Atom-based MID & UMPC

I think people looking at this unit are wanting things the Archos can't give. Granted, the archos 5 excels ahead of anyone in their intended target area, but people waiting for the Viliv want something that runs in a familiar environment (windows XP) with the ability to add any supported windows sof...

Re: Viliv S5 & S7 - Atom-based MID & UMPC

You can order the S5 starting April 27th. See m. It looks like I'm not buying an Archos. I'm getting a real computer. Even though I show enthusiasm for this product, I'd wait for the reviews. There really hasn't been any real world feedback on the final product. It certainly looks like it will fill...

Re: Viliv S5 & S7 - Atom-based MID & UMPC

Well, here is the latest unboxing of the Viliv S5 UMPC with 3G and SSD drive. The maker of the video says $599 U.S. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but it does look interesting and pretty quick bringing up apps / webpages. I think it has Windows XP for it's OS. I imagine there are many flav...

Finally Apple 3.0 update will add Stereo Bluetooth to 2nd gen Touches and iPhones. Sure hope Archos adds this into their Android model. Once you cut the cord, you never go back!

Re: Zinwell Digital Converer Box

I just picked up a Zinwell digital converter box and hooked it up to my Archos 5. So far, so good. But I would like the Archos 5 to control the Zinwell so it can change the channel when it needs to. But there's no "Zinwell" in the list of tuner brands on the Archos 5. Wondering if anyone ...

Archos 5 Look A Like Knockoff

Looks like China targeted Archos. Not a bad deal at $88 if it works. China's Gemei has recently unveiled its latest portable media player, the HD-660, which is capable of playing back HD videos on its 4.3-inch 480x272 widescreen display. The player can hold TransFlash cards with maximum capacities o...

Re: Archos Gen7 with Android features and hardware wishlist

Why would you need to scan a barcode? Or have it tell you you are really in Paris - unless you are drunk enough to think the one in Vegas is the real thing. The 5 is already too big to be a carry-everywhere device, and the battery dock makes it even larger, I only bring that somewhere when I know I...

Re: Archos Gen7 with Android features and hardware wishlist

I only have ONE item for the wish-list. If Archos gave me this one thing, then most all other items on the wish-list would achievable. That one item is give the end user of your product the ability to write their own applications and update old ones. Think of how quickly that old flash problem would...
