In case you haven't figured it out yet: There are 2 tabs in front and 2 in back. If the DVR is facing you, then insert your fingers into the DVR saddle groove at about 1/2 inch from the side edge and hold the main unit with your other hand. Now give a slight tug on the saddle towards you. You should...

I'm glad you posted this. I, too, am very pleased with my 704, especially considering the fact that I came from an AV700. I will admit, however, that getting a good unit seems to be the luck of the draw. The first one I got would constantly reboot when browsing the Internet so that was quickly retur...

Update on firmware

I applied the latest firmware and I'm happy to report that it does fix the issue of browsing my Vista machine from the 704. Previously it would prompt me to enter a username/password and no matter what I entered it would fail. After the update I can access my machine without a hitch, and I even stre...

New Firmware Version 1.7.22 - 19 June 2007

Looks like there's a new firmware out today. Not a whole lot of fixes, but most noticeably seems to address the issue many were having in accessing their Vista machines from the 704. I had this problem, so I'll have to apply this update and see what happens. This is at least encouraging in that Arch...

Actually, the size limit is 4GB due to the FAT32 constraint. Both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink will allow you to create 1 VOB file just under 4GB so you can play the entire movie seamlessly. Doesn't exactly help you, however, if you already have a library of ripped VOB files.

It could be that XP is mounting the Archos device to a drive that was previously occupied by a different device (ie. external hard drive), but not unmounting the name of the drive. So in Windows Explorer it may not appear as "ArchosWiFi" but could actually be available as one of the existi...

Just wanted to give an update to this issue. I exchanged the Archos for a new one, and right out of the box I was able to browse the Internet without a single reboot. It was very, very slow with graphics-intensive sites, but I expected that. I did NOT yet apply the latest firmware, nor have I instal...

If you go into your Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center, I think you would need to turn ON "Public folder sharing", turn OFF "Password protected sharing", and turn ON "File Sharing". You would also need to designate a specific folder on your Vista machine that yo...

What are your thoughts on the helmet cam? I believe it's VGA quality, which isn't any better than most digital cameras or even cell phones. Considering that it's being advertised to capture extreme sports moments, how practical is it to carry around the Archos itself plus the DVR dock or adapter at ...

Re: The plugins

Before I consider paying for and downloading the plugins, I want some more info. Maybe someone here who already has the plugins can provide some insight. How do the plugins come? What file format? How do you install them? Similar to a firmware update? If I have to reset/format my 704 someday, how c...

I haven't had the reboot problem when not browsing the web (knock on wood). According to another member on this site, a future firmware update is supposed to address this. I am going to try exchanging for a new one to see if that fixes it, but I'm not too optimistic. In the meantime, I'm also going ...

Did anyone ever find a fix for this problem? I've had my 704 for about a week--latest firmware and the Cinema plug-in. Whenever I browse the Web it will consistently reboot. Very annoying...
