My battery is also "balloned". Now I switch to the broken battery before putting the unit into the DVR-station. So it is kind of good to have a broken battery that works five minutes or so.

Now I have got my spare battery and confirmed that it chaged OK and I got 3h 50min viewing time. So I called the number I had been given (a Swedish number) and the guy I talked with did not think I could just send them the battery but he asked me to email them. I got a response asking for more ...

I have had the 604 WiFi since November so it is approximatel 7 months constant use in the DVR-station. The number of discharge cycles is probably only around 20 or so.

Strangely enough I have been relativly lucky with laptops. I use them in the same way and the batteri lasts at least two year (with some reduced capacity). A pity since I like to be able to remove the Archos from the DVR and continue to watch things.

I saw that expansys had relatively cheap ...

I have had my battery in the DVR-station in priciple constantly for six months except when I bring the unit on trips. And the batteri is now totally broken. It lasts 15 minutes. The instruction book did not say not to keep the battery in it so I am counting on getting it replaced.

Maybe I should by ...

If its an omission, then it could probably be rectified with a firmware upgrade. Hope Archos is reading this, cause when they say DVD quality I expect that to go for widescreen too.

It plays DVD resolution. It would be a bit silly to compress an anamorphic film vertically and adding black borders ...

I am digitizing my VHS collection and I do not want to store it on hard disk since it takes up too much space. I will save the VHS tapes so I have another backup if the DVD goes bad. I can lend the DVD to people.

You are saying that DVD goes bad but my experience is that I have not had this problem ...

So does that mean as soon as I have recorded from the VHS to the Archos I can burn the files straight to a DVD without any conversion. Just for clarification as I am new to this.

You want to burn a data DVD with an ordinary file system on it. Since I use Linux and growisofs I do not know how to ...

With the latest firmware you do not need the composite to SVIDEO adpater.

A DVD-player that plays the MPEG4-files produced by the archos unit will probably cost $50 or less (DivX-support). I am transferring my videotapes to digital format using the archos but I just burn the MPEG4-files to DVDs.

I contacted tech support again, this time the person thought the DVR Station was defective. She said the video input jack was defective. I told her that the video passes through the dvr station just fine, when I play the tape on the vcr, through the dvr station, I can see the video on the tv, but ...

do you mean you recorded the video tape through the tuner (antenna/cable connection) on you VCR? If so could you please explain your set up. I have my cable running into my VCR and out to my tv.

And can you record from the Cable box or from the video recorder if you use the tuner in the video ...

The problem I referred to was i firmware bug so you was a firmware bug. It was also only a problem with the signal from a VHS tape. Recording the signal from the tuner in the VCR did work.

The SVIDEO innput worked OK so when I used a S-VHS player it worked properly.

Have you configured the External Display to "RGB" in "Display" on your archos? I tested it once with the SCART cable and my Sony TV and RGB seemed to work. I am not sure if I hade to have SW connected or not.

Using composite in it does not work if you do not have firmware 1.6.10 or later (with 604 WiFi). My symptom was unstable image and I heard about black and white image. Maybe signal not detected was a symptom also.

I do not have the travel adapter but as I understand it the adapter is not used for watching things on the TV. For that you use the video cable connected to the ear phone connection.

Also, the first thing to do when you do not get any signal on the archos is to confirm that you really is connecting ...

I think you mixed up source and destination in the description if I am not reading it wrong. The SCART is connected to the destination (your TV or something else) and as I remember it is the input to the DVR station that is restricted to composite or SVIDEO.

I could not stand to do the cycling of ...
