Re: List of cheapest 3G ISPs-per-country and BT-tethering phones

The UK deals mentioned on here are for USB sticks. Can the new Archos use them, or are we purely talking about connection by bluetooth? If so, am I right in thinking that you need a contract that allows you to use your phone as a modem? I know that three in the UK charge a lot more if you want to us...

Bluetooth

Maybe someone who knows a bit about using bluetooth can explain... In the details it says that a phone with a internet access can provide that access to the Archos via bluetooth. I tend not to follow mobile phone features much (just use mine for calls and texts). Is this something that would be pret...

Re: Are you satisfied with your Archos 5?

Generally I was happy with mine for a while. However, the constant reboots and other bugs that have been there for a number of generations (such as the audio issue when recording) have got to me. Mine can't record anymore as it crashes. It often crashes when playing videos, often crashes when viewin...

Recording Issue / Hard Drive Error?

Having not recorded anything for a while from my TV onto my Archos, I tried using it yesterday. It seems to be having a problem that I can't get to the bottom of. During the recording the image freezes for a few seconds. It eventually continues (and the recording timer continues with it). However, f...

Re: Questions: Slingbox and Digital TV

I don't have my slingbox connected up at the moment, but recently they launched sling.com. It apparently has VOD, but also a sling web player. See below, taken from www.slingcommunity.com. Might be worth a try to see if it works on the Archos 5. Also unveiled today is the web-based version of the Sl...

Re: wifi range on Archos 5 - is this a known problem?

Its not great, but it is a huge improvement on the previous generation, which was terrible. I have a town-house with 4 floors. The Router is on the ground floor. With the 605 I could get a signal on the floor above only. When I bought my Archos 5 I could get a patchy signal on the top floor. Followi...

Re: My frustrated email to Archos...

So, we have a music skipping problem, internet that doesn't last for more than about 5 minutes and recording using the dvr that also doesn't last more than 5 minutes. I'm happy to accept minor bugs when something is released, but some of the current problems are anything but minor. For an n'th gener...

Re: Stuck Pixel - fixable? [Yes - well maybe]

My brother is not happy about the stuck pixels that have just appeared on his Archos 5. I've suggested his best bet if he wants to try for a refund is to point out the fact that the internet connection doesn't hold for more than a few minutes. As something that is supposed to be a media tablet this ...

Re: Questions: Slingbox and Digital TV

I can only answer the first question. Without Sling software on the Archos you can't connect to a slingbox. Unfortunately there is no Archos Sling software available, so the answer to your question is no.

Re: Game pak download

The last time I checked it only gave me the option to purchase the games for my 605 and not for my 5. Are you sure that you've actually bought them for the correct unit?

Re: New firmware: 1.0.76 - September 19th - report bugs here

I'm experiencing the same problems as diabloNL with the internet connection. It works fine and then suddenly after a few minutes, nothing. If you disable the wifi and try to re-connect you get no-where. The only option is to turn the unit off and on again.

Re: Game packs in the US.

I'm not in the US, but if I go to the site and try to buy games from the UK it is fine until I have to name the device they are for. In the options it only shows my 605 and not my Archos 5. Thus I'm wondering if they simply aren't available at the moment for anyone.

Some questions

For those who already have their Archos 5's I thought I'd ask a couple of questions. Are any plugins actually available? I looked on the website earlier and could only see plugins listed as being for the previous generation. Also, following on from this, what about games? Are they available, and if ...

Re: A Few Questions

Certain functionality, like the recording resolution and issues with outputting to tv on the different settings, just doesn't seem to have been worked on at all. I remember people posting about the latter supposedly being fixed in the "next firmware update" on what is the previous generati...

A Few Questions

So, as with everyone I'm excited about the new version, but there are a few things I'm keen to find out, especially from those who have seen the units. 1 - Are they any better at picking up wi-fi? Compared to everything else in my house last year's Archos is terrible. My house has 4 floors. Everythi...

Re: 5G question

Of all the versions this potentially has the most appeal to me. Wi-fi is great, but I've never managed to use my current Archos anywhere outside of my house and the unit isn't exactly great at picking up a wi-fi signal compared to things like my laptop. My house has 4 floors and the Archos can pick ...

Any tips on using DivX fix? I have a file that is almost 2 hours, but gives me 10 seconds on the Archos. I tried using Divx fix last night and it generated a new DivX file that gave me the exact segment that the Achos played.

Shortened Playback Issue

I've noticed this a few times in the last couple of months with certain avi files. I'll give the example of the one last night. It is 1 hour 45 long, and will play on a computer without any problems. On the Archos it is listed as being that long in the information, but when you load it the playback ...

I'm really just interested in the quality of the image, clarity, focus, etc. Is it good in dull conditions, and how badly does it drain the Archos battery? Having been the victim of a hit and run and also being taken out by a van turning left, with no witnesses (he said I rammed into him, "beca...

Helmet Cam

Just been reading about the growing number of cyclists using helmet cams to record their commutes to and from work, and was wondering if anyone here has the gen 5 cam for this purpose? If so, how does it perform? I've done pretty well in terms of avoiding crashes, but have also been the victim of hi...
