There is no comparison. Its like comparing apples to oranges. Sure a laptop can play back videos and do so much more. I agree that if a person is travelling anyway with a laptop that maybe it makes a good video viewer at the same time. I can always substitute a wrench for a hammer if I need to. But ...

I just want the ability to swap hard drives for my 504, get rid of that stupid ID lock thing and it's perfect. For me anyway... Something I never quite understood. With the 504 available in 160gb capacities, why would you need to swap? If high capacity is what you need then you buy the 160gb model ...

Yeah they are legit, but I'd rather have 2 more standard capacity batteries because double capacity batteries are a bit thicker, and I find that my 504 is already thick enough as it is. Actually Li-ion batteries lifespan is about 2 years maximum regardless of wether its used or not. Hence if you ke...

m3u playlists not finding songs
I synched WMP and created some playlists. All my music is on a linux computer shared with my main windows PC /Samba. The m3u it creates shows the UNC path of the linux PC where there original mp3 were stored. Now these m3u playlists do not work on the Archos.

Here is a batch file I put together myself which converts mpeg2 to Xvid and in the process removes commercials. Its free and does not require Sage. How well does comskip work? Currently I use Video ReDo, a non-free video editor program to remove commercials from video I have extracted off my Tivo. ...

They Fixed my 'buffer' problem. My unit would freeze for a second every so often when the hard drive spun up- I'm very happy they addressed this issue because it really bugged the crap out of me! Still no contrast control though and I think I know why. I've just encoded a small video clip using poc...

Arclib is forced upon us until they make the unit more bullet proof. As of now if they allow users the ability to turn off Arlib, then when users have problems it would by more difficult for Archos to diagnose the the problem. Archos would always wonder if the absense of a user using Arclib caused t...
