I have taken these apart several times. There is only the 1 screw under the
'kickstand. The 2 halves of the case I separated by using 3 blunt table
knifes to prise the 2 parts of the case apart starting with the edge
furthest from the connectors. I also found that the case resisted being
prised apart. Please see attached photo.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=1636768
I could not find a power connector the same as the original damaged one so I
used the USB port as the means of charging the tablet. This worked
successfully; the soldering was tricky.
Thanks a999rchos so very much. You are a gentleman and a scholar. The photos you sent are also very helpful. My 101 G9 8GB Turbo ICS comes apart the same way except it does not have any screw under the kickstand. I have now successfully opened up the 4GB Staple unit and like your the microUSB charging port just fell out. I have looked at the location and size of the microUSB contacts on the circuit board and it definitely would be too difficult a soldering task for do what you were able to accomplish. I did find that there was someone on eBay in Florida that does this specific charging port repair on these Archos G9 tablets for about $35. But with the shiipig expense it is just not worth it.
I hope at some point to actually acquire another 1GB ram G9 as a parts machine to desolder the RAM chip and see if I can add it to my 101 G9. I am still thinking about that but I just don't know if I am brave enough. When I was working in an HP notebook tech support call center locally before I retired, one of my coworkers had the skills to resolder the Nvidia chipsets that were failing in the 2006-2008 lawsuit laptops. He was able to do this with just a soldering iron for prep and then shielding and a heat lamp to reattach the chip(s) to the board. He had a side business doing this and if I can find him that is the skill set I would assume would be needed to add the extra RAM to my 101 Turbo unit (there is an unused 2nd RAM position).
In any case, thank you again for your help.
