So looks like Charbax was right about this one then. I think many people had high hopes about this Q5....Archos still can't breath a sigh of relief yet though, not until they sort out all the fimeware bugs in 605 wifi (and 704 wifi.)

Yes, it will be disappointing if the Q5 is crap. It showed so much promise. Perhaps it was a demo unit.
If nothing else let's hope it gives Archos enough of a fright to pull their finger out!

Another point of view: http://www.generationmp3.com/index.php/ ... u-cowon-q5

You'll need a translator if you can't read french.

Yep, but it's not a real hands on review, just some (very shakey!) video shots of the demo unit at IFA and an outline of the spec and it's potential advantages over an Archos. I'd wait for a decent (e.g. CNET) full hands on review before judging it completely.

A head to head review of 605 wifi, Q5 and iPod Touch would be interesting. Q5 looks like it'll be way too expensive to be a serious contender to 605 wifi (in my opinion) unless it does what it claims REALLY well (and mostly bug free!)

Interesting point of views I see on different products. Almost like the way people see religions in a narrow minded kind of way. I like this thing so everything else is crap...

I like the archos I have, but I would never buy another one. For instance the Apple touch should be a slap in the face to archos.

The screen of the Cowan looks horrid in that video. Half the time I wasn't sure if the picture I was seeing was from the cowan or the person operating it. It has a killer reflection problem. This thing will suck in any type of lighting and you can probably forget about using it outside.
I also hate the fact that you have to use a stylus all the time. I have never used one with the 604. I guess thats why they need a holder. If you ever forget it you cannot operate the cowan.

Cnet? a decent review site? thats a good one andy! Cnet reviews are good only to get an idea of the size of the player, everything else is terrible.
Dapreview and endagadget are the best sites generally.
I found this review on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzCzkMqzKYI

the gizmondo review is terrible, I really like the interface of it, althought I am disappointed with the speed and responsiveness though.

Yeah I know....(I'd had a few beers in the pub with my mates before I wrote that on Friday night!) CNET is the best of a bad bunch really but at least they try and be a little bit objective whereas some of the others are a total waste of time (DAP are OK, I agree.)

What I trust more is real user reviews (people who have spent there own hard earned cash on something the've coverted for a while). That's when you really get to know if a product lives up to all the hype or not.

Some of the Customer Reviews at online stores are good, such as Amazon's.

They seem to let people say what the really think and mark items down - it's not their products they're selling I suppose !!

Yep, CBers, forgot about Amazon customer reviews (Best Buy and C City also I think)...good you reminded us as these a great minefield of information. Also, with amazon, if something has few reviews on the UK site I check out the US site and usually there are about 5 to 10X more. As always, you scan them and make your own mind up but it's a good place (as good as any) to start.

So what if the Q5 is crap. Between that and the new Archos line up, that means we have two piles of crap to choose from.... I love variety.
