NDrive ISO

Post by drose12 »

I just got my A5IT and the NDrive DVD seems to be damaged and won't read in several computers I have tried.
Does anyone have an ISO of theirs?

I am in Canada and want to try the GPS to see if it is worth buying.

What is the best GPS software for Canadian maps?

From the wiki... http://wiki.archosfans.com/index.php?ti ... GPS_NDrive you would find this... http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.p ... 4&p=177861

Also explain "damaged"... if the install hangs (and fails) at 97 or 98%, it is possible you do not have enough free space on yor Archos... the wiki discusses this a bit.

Damaged as in the installer won't even launch. Some times it won't even mount the disk at all.
This isn't a A5IT issue, this is BEFORE i even get to the installer.

Bummer on the DVD. I'm looking into replacing nDrive already.

Well, hopefully nDrive gets their stuff together for the next version. I guarantee you will be disappointed with nDrive, even for casual routing use.

Can you read the contents in Explorer or other file manager?

Did you get the latest nDrive build?

Link: http://www.archos.com/support/download/ ... .03.10.zip

Here are the instructions from Archos, I pasted them here because there is no link as you need to go through Customer Login to get the info:

GPS Software Update

Update the Ndrive application to version 9.03.10
You should update your GPS application if the version you are currently running is NDrive_9.03.03 or lower. To check the version, launch the GPS application on your device and click on Menu > About > Version.
To install the update:

* Connect your ARCHOS 5 to your PC.

* Click on the DOWNLOAD button on the right to download the updated GPS application (the file is named NDrive_9.03.10.zip).

* Save this file to the desktop of your computer.

* Double-click on this zip file (to unzip it) which will reveal the file "NDrive_9.03.10.apk" .

* Open up your ARCHOS 5 in another window (right-click on the Start icon and select Explorer) and then locate and open the folder ÔÇ£downloadÔÇØ.

* Copy the NDrive_9.03.10.apk file (right-click and select COPY) and then paste it into the folder ÔÇ£downloadÔÇØ (right-click and select PASTE) of your ARCHOS 5.

* Disconnect your ARCHOS 5 from your computer.

* Open the File manager application on the ARCHOS 5, go into the ÔÇ£downloadÔÇØ folder, and tap twice on the NDrive_9.03.10.apk file to start its installation..

* Follow the on-screen instruction to install this newer version of the NDrive GPS applications.

* At the end of the installation, select "OK". Do not select ÔÇ£OpenÔÇØ.

* The application can now be run from the Application tab of the ARCHOS 5 home screen.

* !! ATTENTION !! When the application is first run, it will need to download updated data from the Internet via a WiFi connection. Connect your device to a power source (if using the USB cable, donÔÇÖt allow it to ÔÇÿmountÔÇÖ) to avoid a ÔÇÿpower-downÔÇÖ while downloading the files. Verify you have a wifi connection (open the web browser for example) before running the application.

Let us know how this works. I believe this update fixes some issues with libraries, etc.

My N-Drive Archos DVD has NEVER Worked. It doesnt self start. It doesnt load maps. All it does is hang.

I called Archos support and they gave me a link to a 3.8 gig download file for the maps which is some kind of iso file...which I have yet to figure out and run. Its in a funny file format extension that none of my programs recognize. Im going to call them again tomorrow...maybe ill learn something new and workable.

Ill get back here if I do. Ive loaded in the new N-Drive GPS software as above...and it gets me all the way up to - looking for satellite...which it never finds even if I turn on the GPS menu switch.

Darn, no gps lock. If you leave the unit outside for 5 minutes, it should lock and at least get a 4 sat fix. I can't get a reliable lock indoors, but a couple other gps's I have, do...

I've heard much about the lackluster GPS reception on this device. I have had good luck, but it's still slightly worse than my 2005 Mio, which has a SirfStar III chipset. I never found out what chip is in the A5IT, but it does work well enough. Your first fix will take a really long time, but once the unit figures things out (fix) things lock faster from then on.

I'm glad Archos linked you to an image. I was going to suggest this, but I don't have the means to accurately share such a large file, and not sure if publishing this even on private FTP myself would have been legal, even though you still need an unlock code to use the software longer than 7 days.

Please don't uninstall this by mistake after you unlock the 7 day trial. The software will reinstall, but never run! You'll have to buy it or uninstall it and use something else at that point. I made this mistake, and am begging Archos for the unlock code I was supposed to get as part of my purchase (Radio Shack). I'm traveling TOMORROW in another state, and may have to bring the damn Mio again...

arrrrgggh!

Good luck

I finally got mine to work, but it was after several tries and computers.

The installer did not work on Vista 64 OS, and for some reason my primary XP Pro system would launch the NDrive installer, but it would quickly go "Not Responding" after selecting English.

I ended up downloading the latest version from the Archos FTP site (be prepared for it to be slow!):

ftp://209.252.83.162/ANDROID%20GPS%20FI ... S%20V3.rar

user: archos
pw: archos

I then opened up the rar file and poached the misspelled ISO out of it. Mounted it on my XP Pro 32bit laptop using Daemon Tools

This installed version 9.3.03 (091) DI on my Archos and it worked.

I am currently on the 7 day eval, and the Canadian map and experience thus far has been acceptable.

I really wish there was a CoPilot version I could try, or any other commercial version, but it appears this is really the only paid option for Canada at this point, so they may get my money by default.
