I have used resources from this forum and other websites etc. so do not say that I am stealing but this is a little tutorial for how to get a tv episode from the internet in .flv format to an archos-friendly format.

1. go on http://www.alluc.org/alluc/tv-shows.html (or your favourite video site)

2. Find a video eg. Borat's Guide to Buying a House http://www.alluc.org/alluc/showmovie.php?uid=10460

3. Continue to content and then if it is a youtube video taking up the whole screen, click the video to go the actual youtube page otherwise it will not work

4. Copy the url and paste into the Download text box on http://www.keepvid.com

5. Click "Download Link" and download the .flv

6. Once downloaded, download and install http://www.download.com/CinemaForge/3000-2169_4-10496506.html
(There is a video tutorial for how to find it here:
http://javimoya.com/blog/download-videos/ but it is pretty straight forward)

7. Open up CinemaForge, find the .flv and then choose the output filename and destination, along with the format (The button named Doc Type next to the Output directory button)

8. Wait for it to encode in .avi (or you preffered format) and then...

9. Change the Video Options to the preffered resolution and quality

10. Enjoy :D

Thanx, nice one!

Little nag: CinemaForge ain't freeware...

Maybe this one's a good alternative:
http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=259578

Or Super! Does a lot of other conversions, too:

just my 0.02$ :-D

Thanks for adding to the FAQ Mojorisin69, and martinjay, if you use the link I added to download.com, cinemaforge 2.0 is free. Well it is for me anyway.

But yeah RivaTuner is good also.

Tramp, I appreciate the info. It works great! FYI, Super is a better way to go than Riva. Super has more options and lets you pick the ones that you prefer. With Riva you don't really know what its doing. Thanks again!

Hey Guys,

A newbie here. 1st - let me say thanks.

2nd - I got the videos dl, but once converting them to AVI, played well on my PC but in the Archos, there was a video lag between the video and sound. I got Super and played around with some of the settings. I found that if you change the format to ASF, choose MS-mpeg4-v1, this worked well for me.

No More Lag!!!!! Woh Hoooooo :D :D

I also noticed the lag you experienced. Thanks for the settings advice. You just saved me several hours!

With this website
http://media-convert.com/convert/
you don't need to download any software at all.

Plus they convert all kinds of files from video to music to picture even cellphone media files. And they will convert files from a website so you don't even need to upload. That's great for the Archos 604 wifi since we can't upload files.

Unfortunately you can't convert files from the URL you get from keepvid. At least I can't. But maybe there's another way to do it.
