I spoke to Archos support today concerning transferring my plugins to my second unit, and asked the guy if any new firmware releases were on the way. He said that one is coming before the end of the month, and it will contain support for Flash 9. He seemed pretty sure of himself and even gave me the okay to post it on the forum. So here it is...

Flash 9!! Excellent :)

Excuse my other ignorance though regarding the reference to "GFT"? What is that?

I certainly hope this is true, but I wouldn't be surprised if there has been a little confusion and it turns out to be Flash 8.

GFT is Go Fighting Tabby... the Archos hack (see the hacking thread)

And I would be fine with Flash 8 as well, as there were little to no advances in Flash 9... I think all it was added of any value was h.264 support (whoop-dee-doo... ), so Flash 8 would be perfectly fine with me.

They will rush to fix the browser hack but not fix the buzzing in the head phones :( Just kidding I hope they fix both

Is flash 9 backwards compatible to 7 and 8?

My 504 was stolen.. replaced it with a 605. Archos wouldn't budge.

Your case may be different 605 to 605. Perhaps if you file a police report and fax a copy to Archos.

Yes. All versions of flash are backwards compatible.

Yes, it was from a return. I already had gotten an RMA from Archos, but decided to take it back to the store instead. They didn't have one in stock, so I ordered the replacement from Amazon. Archos support was very cooperative, and didn't even ask for copies of the return or purchase receipts. They just asked for the serial # and product key of the new unit and emailed the plugins to me while we were on the phone.

I asked him specifically if he was sure it was Flash 9 and not Flash 8. He said he was pretty sure that it was 9. I guess we'll have to wait and see. That would be a real bummer if they close the GFT door at the same time. Hmmm.... Qtopia or Flash 9???

No, the iPlayer itself will not as it is also ties into P2P software that you can't install on the Archos.

A little known fact on computer theft is that it isn't just the hardware it is also the licences that you have lost.

In the case of a PC or Mac, even if you still have the original disks you are not permitted to reinstall on a new machine you must buy a new licence so you should claim on the insurance for both the hardware and the software that has been lost.
