I'll post tricks for the 604 Wi-Fi at http://archosfans.com once I get it and start reviewing it.

Sounds good. I put a few suggections in the 604 wifi section under cool apps. Some of the stuff I would interested in would be

vnc
aim or other instant messaging
apps that can be controlled through html(like browseamp with winamp to control winamp)
security or monitoring is there any network cameras that can be controlled via html?

thanks for the reply the 604 wifi is great hopefully we will get flash and java then we will really be able to get more use out of it.

thanks again

javascript yeah

If you can post a video of the tips and tricks, I can post that on the http://archosfans.com frontpage.

But sure the forum is good for posting tips and tricks..

The browser should let you control everything remotely, even your home heating system, air conditionning, lighting and your oven, it just depends if you set your home up right with a http server administration system to be able to remote control all this.

I will try to put a video together on browseamp and maybe a separate video on encoding video if you want. As soon as I get a dvr I can try it with the nslu2. If you want a video without the dvr dock I could do that now. Just let me know what is ok and what ya need.

Just any interesting video is usefull I think for users who would like to see how the 604 Wi-Fi works.. The NSLU2 solution sounds great..

The more videos made, the more interesting, the more detailed, the higher quality, the better..

If you can make a DivX file, you may upload it to me at http://mediamax.com clicking upload to my username EFCmovies.

Or you can use an ftp software to upload it in the incomming folder at my ftp://videohost.eu/ anonymous ftp server.

Or you can upload it to http://youtube.com or http://video.google.com and post the link.

If you can take the time to explain in detail how your NSLU2 solution works, and show how the video streams nicely on your Archos and explain that you do not need to have your computer turned on, the format of the hard disk drives on the NSLU2, the size they can be, whatever you know about this NAS system and whatever else you want to talk about is cool!

I'll make a HD video review of my 604 Wi-Fi in a few days when I receive it.

Thanks that is a cool video! it's now posted on the http://archosfans.com front page.

Thanks!

I'll try to add a wmv stream also..

Any more detailed videos, with better focus showing different parts of the interface, or any other cool tricks you know then it's cool if you want to post on my ftp and I'll add it to the archosfans.com video blog.

I will try to get some better video next time. I was using a digital camera that records video to make it. When I get the dock which will be fairly soon I hope. I am going to run a usb hub between the DVR docking station the external drive and the NSLU2 which I hope will work.

I'm very interested in the connection between the 604 wifi and the linksys NSLU2 because I look for a mean to share my USB External harddrive content with a portable media player.
Mojorisin69 seems to get that point as I 've just seen his video.
Apparently we just need the 604 wifi, the Linksys NSLU2 and a USB external harddrive to perform this.
No need for computer nor router nor anything else? Is that true?

One remaining point: it seems that the NSLU2 does not support FAT FAT32 nor NTFS. How do we have to format the external harddrive if FAT32 is not supported?

Thanks

After watching again Mojorisin69 video, I got answers to my last post questions. Actually, NSLU2 now supports NTFS and FAT32 and I obviously need a wifi router to connect the NSLU+hardrdive and the Archos 604 wifi.
Two more questions:
- Can I insert in a mp3 file from the external harddrive directly in a playlist without copying it and then selecting it from the ARC Library?
- I saw that it takes around 25s to detect the NSLU2+harddrive. Can't it be faster? Does it depend on the amount of memory used in the harddrive?

Thanks

Here is an awesome sight if you are insterested in the nslu2. It has firmware where you can use your nslu2 as a small linux machine and you will still be able to use it with the archos. The archos dvr dock however will only take fat 32 but the nsl u2does support ntsf and yes you will have to upload the actual mp 3 to the external hard drive. Good luck :)

Nslu2 is mean to share an HDD content with the network it is connected to via a wifi router. Another solution would be to use an ethernet HDD (Vantec Nextar LanShare NST-360LS + 3.5" hard drive) connected directly to the wifi router.
This is cheaper as the ethernet box is worth 60euros (without hard drive).
See http://www.clubic.com/shopping-130186-0 ... ouces.html

The other advantage is to only get one device instead of two.
By the way, the box has USB2 interface that let you the ability to use your hard drive more commonly aswell.

What do you think of that? Would it work with an archos 604wifi?

Thanks

From the same manufacturer, I found the Vantec Nexstar NST-375LS which seems to have more functions than the 360LS as it is considered as a NAS (with content accessible anywhere from the internet)
See http://www.vantec.com.tw/_en/01_product ... 109&id=128

This seems to be quite interesting as, fitted with an additional harddrive, you can use it as an USB External harddrive or as a NAS connected to the wifi router.

1) Used as a NAS, it should be detected by the Archos 604 wifi, shouldn't it?
2) Moreover, as the content can be accessed on the internet, it would be interesting to see what happens while trying to connect to the NAS directly from the 604 wifi opera web browser.

Does anyone see any problem related to this implementation and the two functions I would like to use?

Thanks in advance
