hey just first gonna say i read the whole topic to avois answering the same question twice,

And is the speaker any better on the gen 5? I suspect not but worth a question. Could you post some pics of the audio player too.
and it in browser mode too.

also I saw a pic while reading this thread showing video options while playing,
There was contrst/Brightness support! Could you just tell me to, to confirm it please that you can change picture contrast/Brightness please. Are they're any other ones (i.e sharpness or saturation) that you can change?

and the question that came up twice but remains unanswered, is the gen 4 dvr station compatible with the 605?

I would say speaker is no better than 604, it still needs headphones or external speakers.

LCD support, appears to be as I posted it, BrightNess, Contrast etc. I can find no other settings.

The question is to know if Archos will sell the new special remote control separately and if it will work with the DVR Station Gen4:

Thanks for that picture, I posted it at:

Gotta disappear for the afternoon now.. My iPhone needs some playing with.. (how spooky that the 605 and iPhone both turned up on the same day.. I didn't know what to play with first. (if you beg my pardon missus!).

Anymore questions, please PM me or post a message.

I'm sure this thread will die next week, when the shipments from Archos/Amazon/Pixmania start landing around the globe.

Please post a picture of the 605 WiFi next to the iPhone!!

And later if you have time, please post a video where you compare the two in detail, that would be awesome and I would post that on the blog.

I would also like to see some video of the 605 and 704 side by side playing the exact same video... to see the quality differences.

Where did that cool remote come from? Is that in the 605?

That remote is for the whole Gen5 using the new DVR Station and the new TV+ which is a standalone DVR with 80-500GB. You can see more here:

iPhone looks much crisper and seems to have more color.

Also try doing the same thing between the 605 and 704 and syncing the video so thy are running the same scene. That would be great to see.

Down the road I would like to see a comparison between the 605 and PSP... as they have the same screen size.

From this video there doesn't appear to be a contest - the iphone looks absolutely stunning in comparison to the 605.

Is that right nkarnold?

It does look better, I would agree. The whole iPhone UI is bright and at 160dpi, even browsing webpages looks crystal clear.

Apple sure have a winner.

Remember these videos have been recorded using a Nokia N95 video phone, and do not do the actual footage justice!!

I notice that the 605 is held together by a series of screws. This leads me to believe taht the battery is indeed accessible. Can anyone confirm this?

Another question, perhaps for Charbax or anyone who has this information. The Archos Portal doesn't have anything that looks even remotely like an American site. Do you know if these are the only sites available or is it simply that these are the European partners and the Americans will be added when they get shipped?

OK but the 605 WiFi is 220dpi, so the higher pixel density of the 605 might cost a bit in the brightness area compared with the iPhone? Or maybe it is something else..

The iPhone has a higher dpi than the 604.. Maybe it is because of the 3.5 inch smaller screen that makes it look sharper but is it just a visual effect? Which screen would you rather watch a movie on?

Thanks for the other videos, I posted them here:

As for Archos Content Portal for USA, Archos has already a deal with Cinemanow and I think a few other must be covering the US market. But I am sure that Archos is in talks with some of the major content owners, at least Echostar must be in the process of adapting all of its VOD content so it will work on the Archos, I don't know if it is mostly going to be television shows from the Echostar Dish Networks satellite channel, or if Echostar will distribute also all the movies from all the major movie studios. Anyways, I think that Archos must be quite busy getting deals with several content partners in each country.

i cant wait to get one- also echostar owns 10% of this company so i would think a new pocketdish -that works with dishnetwork rec. is coming soon. I love the pocketdish all you have to do is plug the usb to the dish rec and it transfer real fast programs in the dvr.

Charbax,
Thank you for posting side by side comparisons of the 604 vs. 605. I currently own an av500 which I am still completely satisfied with. The option of wifi definately got my interest on these newer models, though.

One thing that i noticed from the videos you posted was something I was concerned about from the beginning. The new 605 appears to crop the sides of the video you are playing. Why would archos change the dimensions of the screen on the newer model if it is gonna crop of part of the videos??

This sort of bothers me a little, I now have to decide whether to wait till next year, or maybe find a wifi 604 with the correct screen dimensions. what would you recommend?

It will be cool if it does. Means Archos does listen sometimes!
