Hi.

When listening to audio (or video) podcasts with podcast clients that use their own audio or video player, the device's screen turns off about 1 minute later (which is bad when watching videos, but thats not the point of my problem here), but once the screen switches off playback is also paused! This is particularly annoying for audio podcasts where I don't mind at all that the screen turns off, however, I do mind that the playback is paused for no reason...

For now all I can do is to set the screen timeout to "never". But this keeps the screen on all the time. While this is OK for video podcasts working with their own player, it sucks for audio podcasts.

How can I avoid this? Note that I am not sure how to call this state the device goes to once the screen turned off...

Run another app that prevents the device from going into standby.

Or play back podcasts from the AMC if possible.

Are you using a task killing program, if so ensure that you leave Wizard running, killing it has been known to cause the unit to go into standby even if in use.

Hey. Playing back using the AMC is too much of a hassle tbh.

Using a program that prevents standby ... well, are there any examples for this?

I am using Advanced Task killer, and followed the archosfans wiki instructions, excluding quite a few apps from being killed (including Wizard), so this shouldn't be the problem.

Since there seem to be 0 programs world-wide that can do what I need, I decided to write this application myself (being a Java developer this didn't take too much time).

Source code for those who want to compile their apk themselves due to trust issues :D

Download APK

Mediafire mirror for both files

Works amazing. Now I can use pandora without it shutting off when the screen goes dark!
Thank you.

Glad you like it. BTW, if you don't need the wakelock anymore, you can also just kill the program with your favourite task killer application. The lock will be released just fine.

Yeah, rapidshare is lame like that... hopefully NameZero912 can put the file to something like mediafire or megaupload instead...

Thanks v much. Just started using DoggCatcher and this has solved a big problem - now I don't have to leave the screen on all the time when listening to the podcasts. You are a a legend :)

Btw, just had a small email thread with official Pandora support and they say that they have "lock control" on the latest version.

Here is a link for directly downloading it: http://bit.ly/kAPKn

Thread dbag much?

I was searching about Pandora, saw ppl had a problem and tried to help with what I thought was a better solution (don't need to remember releasing the lock when you quit Pandora). What did you do useful?
